Would you trade Anfernee Simons for Matisse Thybulle? If you don't know who Thybulle is, or haven't seen him play as a Sixer, watch some YouTube before you answer.
So after finally getting rid of ET you are yearning to watch someone play who can't shoot at all again?
Neither has done really anything in the NBA yet. So, saying I'm torn isn't saying I'm yearning for anything, but welcome to hyperbole 101.
I was high on him too coming out, I thought if Gary Payton could learn to shoot he could but after watching him and his stats the last ten games, wow, terrible.
Besides team-driven hype though, have we proven that Simons is actually all that good? Sure we may look at him and say wow he plays smooth, his shot looks smooth, and we think there is potential there, but he hasn't actually done anything. So far on the year, his Offensive rating is 97, his OBPM is -0.9, his BPM is -3.2. Obviously he's young, but he's 20 and there are certainly 20 years olds who have done better and are currently doing better. Thybulle can't shoot, he's pretty dreadful offensively, but he's a really good defender and 22. Who knows where either will be in a couple of years. They both have a lot of work cut out for them, and a lot of proving it to be players that end up sticking in the NBA. This is why I said I'm torn, neither look all that great yet, both have holes in their games all over the place and I have no way of knowing how hard they'll be willing to work at overcoming those deficiencies. I doubt either team would do a trade straight up. Obviously I hope Anfernee gets to a place he's as good as the hype machine says, but right now he's not.
I'm basing my opinion on potential of each and I'm not on the hype machine that is claiming Simons to be a future HOF. I think it will be easier for Simons to learn defense than to teach Thybulle how to shoot.
Who knows, some guys never figure out how to play defense, some guys never figure out an offensive game. Plenty of examples of both. Just don't think it's that clear cut one will be better than the other right now.
One factor to also look at is that Thybulle is a 4 year college player so should be expected to be more polished at this stage where as Simons has much less experience and 2 years younger
I think the off-season hype for Simons was way over the top that said, no way on this trade idea because while the hype was loony, Simons obviously has plenty of upside as a SG. High Ceiling . Thybulle reminds me of MKG....broken shot
