I was just thinking Hassan Adams would be great pick in the second round.

In my mock draft I think I had us taking Ronnie Brewer. Although that wouldn't please me that much. Roy is ideal, and I think Carney is overrated.

Ronnie Brewer would be a good pick, he's sorta a less Roy. He does everything good, but nothing great. He was one of the more consistent players in the SEC last year, he didn't have huge games, but was consistent nearly every night and that was with everyone zoning in on him. He was basically Arkansas's only offensive threat(well Modica was too, but not to the level of Brewer). He set up the offense very nicely for Arkansas. He doesn't really have a nice jumper, but he can work on that.

Here is what I gotta say about the draft and the Orlando Magic. Who do you think the Magic will draft in the 1st round? I say the Magic should go with a tall SG that can pick up alck for our small PG but also the person we pick needs to be able to shoot the 3-point shot. Here are the possibilities I came up with (also the order in my big board)

    Brandon Roy(tough to get)
    Rodney Carney
    Ronnie Brewer
    Richard Roby
    Mardy Collins
    Randy Foye
    J.J. Redick

In the second I want the Magic to focus on a defensive and 3-point shooting mentality. I want the Magic to draft a big man that plays defense when Dwight and/or Darko get tired but also a swingman that can shoot the rock. We have 3 second round picks so we gan go a lot of ways in the second round. Here are the possibilities I came up with

    Steve Novak
    Mike Gansey
    Shannon Brown
    Allan Ray
    Kevin Pittsnogle
    Taj Gray
    Leon Powe
    Justin Williams
    Hassan Adams
    Denham Brown
    Ryan Hollins

The reason I say go for JJ is beacuse he made a great college player with his shooting that we havent seen in a long time. How he translates in the NBA is not known, but having someone who can dominate at a high level is to look at.

I was also thinking for a 2nd since hes not in any draft but J.P. Batista when he went down in a tournament the Zags lost there lead then still sporting his bad knee he can back in and they won the tourny. He was a side kick to Morrison hes a big body who can score and rebound.

I was thinking about the Magic's second round picks the other day and Allan Ray came to mind. A lot of people want Redick because of his three point shooting ability. I don't think a three point specialist is worthy of a lottery pick so why don't we just get our long range shooter in the second round? Ray is perfect for that role and I can see him coming off the bench for us.

    Magic Covet Rudy Gay?

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">TRADING UP: The Orlando Magic seem to be in love with Rudy Gay and are looking to move up to nab him. It’s likely going to cost the Magic a player, and rumor is it could be Keyon Dooling – The Magic had in seven players on Thursday, including Rodney Carney, Randy Foye, Hassan Adams, Shawne Williams, Quincy Douby, Ronnie Brewer and Mardy Collins. The Magic supposedly thought well of almost all of them, but have likely settled in that none of them are their guy. Hassan may be in Orlando if he is there for them in the second round at 41, they liked his defense but it is unlikely he falls that far. The Magic feel like they can move up at least three spots in the first round putting them at the No. 8 pick, giving them a shot at Rudy. What is more likely is the Magic triggering a draft day deal to obtain Rudy from whomever drafts him. The Rockets seem open to trading down, especially with the news they will have Alexander Johnson in again this week and could likely grab him at No. 11.</div>

Wow. I taught maybe deshawn to the rockets not dooling. But still nice to see Gays name as he is a nice player and can turn into a something dangerous paired next to Dwight.

Isnt Rudy a Sf, meaning either moving Ariza or Ghill to Sg is the plain if he comes in.

Rudy Gay is 6'8 and he did play small forward in college. However, he is supposedly very versatile so I think he would be able to switch over to the shooting guard position. Here is some more information about Gay:
    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">
    Rudy Gay
    Birthdate: 8/17/86
    NBA Position: Small Forward
    College: Connecticut
    Class: Sophomore
    Ht: 6-8
    Wt: 220
    Hometown: Baltimore, MD
    High School: Spalding

    NBA Comparison: Scottie Pippen

Strengths: Run and jump athlete who finishes well above the rim ... High flyer ... Very versatile... Does everything well ... Complete offensive arsenal... Can hit the mid range jumper... Excellent at slashing to the hoop... Accurate passer who is very unselfish... Does the majority of his damage in the post ... Very strong and stays active throughout the game ... Very tough to defend... Doesn?t get pushed around down low ... Runs the floor well ... Tough on the boards... Has a passion for the game ... Works harder than everyone else on the court ... A coach?s dream player ... Will most likely play on the wing at the next level ... Has great potential.

Weaknesses: Ball handling could stand to improve ... Must gain maturity ... Develop physically ... His glaring weaknesses are his inexperience and his handle. His handle has improved dramatically but learning that phase late has slowed him moderately ... He will be star with some college seasoning ... He has only really been coached for a year and a half now so if UConn can get 2 years out of him he will be one of the baddest things to come out of college since Tim Duncan ...</div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Philadelphia Inquirer - Sources have indicated to the Philadelphia Inquirer that Shelden Williams has pulled out of scheduled workouts with teams in the second half of the top 10, including Minnesota, who picks sixth.

This is a possible indication that a team in the top five has made a commitment to Williams that they will select him.</div>

We might have to cross off Williams on our list.

Here is another option for our second round pick Renaldo Balkman

Thank god that that happened. Shelden Williams would probably be absolute worst draft pick in the lottery.

I would actually love Renaldo Balkman. I doubt he gets drafted though, he's not really that talented. I'm extremely happy he's gone though, so the Gators don't have to deal with him anymore. He shows up every game against us. I wouldn't be disappointed if we took him in the 2nd, although we could probably get him as an undrafted FA. He brings amazing hustle and just does the little things that helps a team win.

He was probably my favorite non Gator SEC player this year.

I'm all for drafting him for depth/energy off of the bench.

I think the Magic should use their pick on either Carney or Brewer, they need that athletic swingman that can run along side Jameer. IMO, Orlando is a team built to run with athletic big men like Dwight Howard and Darko Milicic.

So what is it gonna be?

We moving up, trading or just drafting at #11? Any current news on rumors? I havent heard the Magics name in a while regarding this draft so I assume we are staying put or moving up a spot or two.

I'm gonna assume that we stay at 11 and hopefully take Ronnie Brewer. I think the 3 guys most likely to be left is Ronnie Brewer, JJ Redick and Rodney Carney, so we should get at least one of them.

Yea, I think for the most part it will be Brewer unless one of the top 10 slip to our spot. I wish there was a way we could get Roy, he would be perfect for this team.

With Houston rumored to be close to a deal with the Hawks, I think all talk between the Rockets and Magic has died. Maybe they figured if they could get their hands on Roy they wouldn't need DeShawn Stevenson. I think the Magic-Hornets deal is still on the table so JR Smith might be in a Magic jersey by the start of this season.

As far as moving up goes, I think we are happy at #11 and we will go after Ronnie Brewer unless someone like Rudy Gay or Brandon Roy drops to us. Brewer impressed everyone in workouts and in the PreDraft Camp when he showed his amazing athleticism.

Also, a lot of rumors have been spreading that Otis and the Magic are in love with Randy Foye. Apparently he showed off his deep threat and was hitting threes consistently, something he isn't really known for. He impressed everyone in his workouts and some people were saying that we were going to move up to get him. Whether or not it is a smokescreen remains to be seen but as of now, he is still high on our draft board.

Another rumor leaked that the Magic would not pass up on Shelden Williams if he is available at #11. His strength, power, and defensive abilities have really impressed scouts and teams including Orlando. If he were to drop (and if the Houston-Atlanta deal were to fall apart) don't be suprised if the Magic swipe him off the board.

I'm going to merge this with the Official Draft Thread because from now on we want that to be the main thread for draft discussion rather than having a bunch of seperate threads that take awhile to go through. From now on, please put all draft related posts in the Official Draft Thread that is stickied. Thank you.
