We probably could have started this in June -- this past June.

I'm going to be careful this year.

I bombed the Waiters pick, but I nailed the Faried pick the year before!

The top-tier guys in 2013:

1A) 'Bazz Muhammad
1b) Cody Zeller

It's another top-heavy draft IMO.

How many games have ya'll seen Shabazz and Nerlens play?

I've read just as much about them about them as anyone, I've seen the highlights, and I caught most of the game Noel played against McGary's team last season. However, it's too early to really make assessments on either player from our perspective.

We need to see them against NCAA competition this season before establishing an opinion. This is why we have the rule. Although you have to question that rule, Andre Drummond could have been the #1 pick without it, so maybe it does serve a purpose for the NBA scouts.

I don't think will be the worst team or even the top 5 worst. I do think we manage top 10, but the Bobcats, Cleveland, Phoenix and maybe Golden State and Sactown strike me as worse than us.

The last "true" wing (unless one counts LeBron James, who was thought to be more of a PG when drafted) to be selected #1 overall was Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson in the 1994 NBA Draft. Shabazz Muhammad is a player who has a great chance of ending this 18 year drought of scoring wings at the top spot. A definite alpha amongst the incoming freshman class, Shabazz combines high level athleticism with overpowering strength to gain competitive advantage. The lefty has an excellent wingspan and plays every possession like it was his last. He leads by example and even amongst his top peers in the high school All-Star games, was more often than not deferred to as the absolute #1 scoring option.

His major detractors will point out his strong hand dominance as well as consistency with long range shooting, two things he will definitely need to improve to ensure the top spot in the 2013 Draft. Shabazz draws comparisons to James Harden and while he might be even stronger at a similar stage of development, he is not at Harden's level as a distributor. Nonetheless, the only thing holding Shabazz from having a big time freshman season at UCLA would be questions surrounding his eligibility. If these concerns are ironed out, look for Shabazz to have the best freshman season seen at Westwood since Kevin Love was on campus.

Whether you consider him a power forward or center, we can all agree Zeller is the most effective post-player in the country.

While he doesn't have the look of a number one overall pick, he fills all the requirements except passing the eye test. Zeller's offensive skill-set, scoring instincts and basketball IQ are top-shelf caliber, which makes him the focus of opponents' game-plan and preparation. Being the centerpiece of a title contender will only increase his appeal as a potential franchise cornerstone building block for a struggling NBA team.

Phoenix and Golden State have pretty good lineups

Speaking of players we've actually had a chance to watch on the NCAA level, what are everyone's thoughts on James McAdoo?

The start to his collegiate career was obviously disappointing, but regardless of his productivity, I'm more interested to see what his role will be with UNC this season. All I've heard since he was in high school was that he's a hybrid forward that has the ability to play out on the perimeter. I didn't see much of that last season though.

He didn't seem to be a great back-to-the-basket player, but his jumper didn't look that great either. I know midnight madness is like the retarded stepchild of the NBA preseason, but after watching him play in that a few days ago, it doesn't seem like he found a jumper over the summer. His offensive role will most undoubtedly be expanded this season with the departure of four players taken in the top 17, but I just wonder if they shouldn't try to develop him into more of a traditional four than a hybrid, playmaking forward.

(EDIT: Just spotted this in your quote, Fez:

"The last "true" wing (unless one counts LeBron James, who was thought to be more of a PG when drafted) to be selected #1 overall was Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson in the 1994 NBA Draft."

That's just untrue. LeBron wasn't pegged as a PG when drafted. This guy's own website had him pegged as a SF.)

I like McAdoo a lot. This should be his year to showcase his talents with UNC.

A ball handling big, with great vision. He has a lot of unrealized potential. But the sky's the limit as far as I'm concerned.

Ya will see. Some other teams that might not be great are Toronto and Detroit. Also I forgot about Orlando they'll probably suck.

Also, just to put it into perspective, here was nbadraft.net's 2012 mock a year before the draft -

http://web.archive.org/web/20110723220122/http://www.nbadraft.net//

1) Andre Drummond
2) James McAdoo
3) Anthony Davis
4) Harrison Barnes
5) Jared Sullinger
6) Jeremy Lamb
7) Quincy Miller
8) Perry Jones
9) Marquis Teague
10) Brad Beal
11) Khris Middleton
12) Myck Kabongo
13) Josiah Turner
14) Austin Rivers

Lets just say I will be watching more college hoops this season then I have in awhile.

Wow Lillard is no where in sight. Or Leonard for that matter. Could end up being two great picks for us.,

I think you picked a lot more than just Waiters this past draft

At one point you wanted Marshall, Beal, Waiters, MKG..... who didn't you want actually?

Aren't we a little premature to call Waiters a bust?

I'm definitely not a fan of the kid; hell, if you told me he'd go top 10 a week before the draft, I'd laugh at the notion.

How many NBA games has he played though? He was fat and out of shape in the summer league,... but you don't think the Cavaliers are going to do something about that in training camp and over the course of the season?

I've thought Waiters was over-drafted since day one, and I've also thought that Damian Lillard would be a good pro, but reading this forum will lead a casual fan to believe that Damian Lillard already won Rookie of the Year and Dion Waiters got cut before training camp.

Let's at least let them play a real game before jumping all over them.

Likewise, let's let Nerlens Noel and Shabazz Muhammed play some NCAA ball before anointing either of them the next '(insert comparison),' because I'm pretty sure none of us have seen enough of them to say anything of substance about their games'.

So we still owe the Bobcats a 1st rounder for Gerald Wallace:
Bobcats receive the Blazers' 2013 first-round pick (top 12 protected in the 2013, 2014, and 2015, and unprotected in 2016) (Gerald Wallace trade 02-24-2011). So we should be fairly safe for awhile....

Not that I'm disagreeing with you, but why did you decide to quote my post? I never said anything about Waiters being a bust or anointing Lillard as ROY. My post was making fun of Fez and his tendency to flip flop on draft prospects.

With that said, I think Waiters will be a bust. The guy is a chucker. He's an undersized shooting guard. Not much to like about him imo.

Early projections on nbadraft.net are a bit funky. I remember they had Sergio ranked ahead of BRoy in 06 for a while.

Found it: This was from 10/31/05, so around 8 months before the actual draft. Much like the projections we see on these sites now.

Some funny ones: 3. Daniel Gibson, 5. Sergio, 9.LA, 24. Rudy, 40. BRoy.

I apologize. I understood your point, I just quoted the wrong post.

The one that jumps off the page to me is Nemanja Aleksandrov. Remember the Euro craze back then? He was supposed to be the next great export, and now he can't even make a premier European team. I've always wondered why he never materialized. Maybe he was just over-hyped by ill-informed and under-staffed fledgling draft websites (*cough* NBADraft.Net *cough*).
