I thought Terry had a chance to coach the all-star game, but then i looked at SA 's schedule. 7 out of their next 9 are at home. POP will be there once again

Pop can't coach two years in a row. Kingspeed explained this as the "pat Riley rule".

Somehow Doc Rivers will weasel his way into coaching the team... If Pop can't.

At times I think they are better without him, but that's only because he's such a nut job that can try and win the game without Durant. I wonder how good they would have been if they traded Westbrook instead of Harden? I bet they could have gotten a much better player, maybe even solidifying the center position with a combo of Perkins. I'm just glad OKC management sucks and couldn't look into the future. They've made some terrible mistakes and it makes me smile!

No Kobe. No DRose. No TNT. Bulls-Lakers Jan. 20 game dumped in favor of Rockets-Trail Blazers.

    dang! that sucks.

    Two things come to mind.

    1. I wonder if the Clippers are stacked enough to handle that better than the Hornets used to handle him being out.

    2. I wonder if he'll play in the ASG. IF he takes 4 weeks, he'd be coming back about the time the ASG takes place. I'd think he'd want to skip it to get better physically.

To 1, I'd say no. I'll probably be proven wrong, but they rely a TON on Paul. Griffin is good, but even with him, he gets a lot of his stuff off of Paul. It's not like Aldridge, where you can use him to make open looks for outside shots. He's SO important to what they do. I like Collison ok, but he's no Paul. Could be really tough for them. Hopefully they have a tough schedule coming up.

Re: OFFICIAL 2014 Around the NBA thread

What's really interesting is that if CP and Kobe both miss the ASG, as of the last returns on the ballots the starters would be Curry and Jeremy Lin.... Dame still probably makes it easy enough with Harden/Parker... But I'd laugh if Lin gets the start.

Re: OFFICIAL 2014 Around the NBA thread

I don't think that's how it works. CP3 and Kobe still would get the nod for starters, but the coaches still fill out the rest of the team/replacements.

That doesn't Matter. CP3 and Kobe still get the slots, and then Stern picks the replacements if they can't play.

Re: OFFICIAL 2014 Around the NBA thread

I knew Stern picked replacements for guys that got hurt after they are selected, but I didn't know it was an automatic pick if a starter was out... interesting

Re: OFFICIAL 2014 Around the NBA thread

The fans voted in Magic Johnson even after he retired, and the NBA allowed it. The starting five is the starting five, and unless the league allows someone to sit out, they don't replace that player.

Re: OFFICIAL 2014 Around the NBA thread

Quite a busy night, on an off-night for Portland.

    ● Chris Paul out 3-5 weeks with a separated right shoulder (it appears he over-reacts to contact with Monte Ellis, flops to the ground, and ends up landing on his shoulder funny... #irony) Opens a spot for Matthews or Batum on the All Star team. ;)

    ● GS beats a Horford-less Atl by 1 point 101-100. (Curry 1-7 from 3 and 9 turnovers, as a team: 6-27 from 3 and 21 turnovers)

    ● Ryan Anderson (cervical stinger) left on a stretcher colliding with Gerald "crash" Wallace. Neck, nerve injury sounds a bit scury, and no word on how long he'll be out.

    ● Min sent Shabazz Muhammad to the D League

hope in Dragic land - logical next choice after Curry, Harden, Lillard, Parker. not that Stern's choices have always been logical (Chris Kaman all-star!)
