I think Olsheys Plan A will be to sign Horford and keep everyone except for Henderson, Kaman, and Roberts, while extending CJ. He'll then trade Plumlee for a young player and a future 1st, since we'll have a logjam of bigs, and letting Leonard go doesn't result in assets.

    Lillard / McCollum (12)
    McCollum (24) / Crabbe (24)
    Aminu (30) / Harkless (12) / Crabbe (6)
    Harkless (14) / Davis (22) / Vonleh (12)
    Horford (32) / Leonard (16)

That's adding a star and letting the cake bake. If this lineup is competing for a top 2, NO will stand pat. However, if we let the cake bake, matching on Harkless, Crabbe, and Leonard while also giving CJ his extension will leave us no cap space for next year.

That's why Niel has to maximize all his assets, and can't let them go for nothing.

We'll have a lot of trade-able assets at the deadline, if a star becomes available.
We could possibly put together a good enough package out of Crabbe, Harkless, Vonleh, Leonard, Young Player from Trade, Picks (We'd have two extra 1sts) for someone like Cousins.

I dont think horford will sign with us. He already made it sound like he was dedicated to atlanta. We would be pulling a spurs like they did with aldridge to the atl fanbase. Why choose portland over toronto? They are in the ecf and missing him. Otherwise they are pretty complete and have an easier path to the finals in the east. I believe he also said he would love to go back to florida.

Id love horford, i just dont see it.

I dont necessarily like howard, but i would take him.and think hes much more likely.

I am surprised so many Blazer fans have Roberts leaving. As a mid-season pickup, Roberts had little, if any, time to train to be part of the regular rotation. If the price is right, he is well worth bringing back.

Great post Bones. I hope Neil's first target is Horford, but I'm with JFizzleRaider, I'm guessing Howard is more likely.

By my cap calculations, the big difference is that Howard is a 10+ year vet, and qualifies for the 'super max' (35%), whereas Horford is a 9 year vet and qualifies for the 'standard' max (30%). If Dwight demands the supermax, I don't see how we could sign him and retain Leonard.

I'm also not 100% sold on Howard. But what the hell. If we could lure a top free agent like him, I say roll the dice.

If not Horford or Howard, I don't see Whiteside as an Olshey guy. I'm guessing his next targets will be less-than-max guys like Biyombo (age 23), Ezeli (age 26), and perhaps Mahinmi (age 29).

I've been thinking this too, but I'm not sure that Whiteside isn't somebody Olshey would target. If not any of those names then I think we've decided to stand pat.

I'm not taking Howard at a near max contract for more than a year. But if we do sign him, the logic still applies with Plumlee if were still gonna keep Leonard. Leonard and Plumlee are Cs, but Leonard can play with Davis and is a totally different look than Howard.

Atlanta got dominated by Cleveland with him, while Portland competed against Golden State without him. That's why he'd come here.

Also, Toronto doesn't have the cap space to sign him even if Derozen doesn't return. Plus, Toronto already has a good Center in Valenciusencounious.

What type of contract do you think the injury-prone Noah will garner?

So how much would they pay to keep Biyombo, or is he moving on?

I think they'll go over the cap to resign Derozen, then use their bird rights on him to resign him

"I’ve set up here with my family. We all live here. We live here in the summer. We live here year-round. I’m very grateful for all the people here. They have taken me in from the very first day, even though I was a Gator. They loved me. I really love the city." - al horford

That doesnt sound like a guy that wants to leave. Horford hasnt rubbed me as a prima donna like aldridge was.

Toronto can manuever to bring him on even with keeping derozan, his cap hold isnt going to be that large. Valanciunas and lowry arent paid that much.

Biyombo and Valanciunas both making big bucks could be a problem

Maybe we offer him day 1, while they are still waiting to see what Derozan decides. Not as good as Whiteside or Horford, but probably easier to get. Should we make him feel like he is our number one priority? Or do we take a chance and go for a home run instead ?
