"Last I checked he [Whiteside] was an unrestricted free agent." - CJ

One nice part of going after Whiteside is that his max is less than guys like Durant, Horford or Howard since he's only a 4 year vet. With a cap of around $92M, for a 0-6 yr vet the max will be approx $21.5M. We'd only have to renounce the rights to Henderson and Kaman, and we'd have space to sign him - plus bring back the rest of our restricted free agents if we chose to.

Don't show your cards too early CJ.

I'm not the biggest fan of Whiteside but I am of the opinion that the Blazers need to get someone, anyone that is an upgrade at one of the front court positions this off-season. If Neil can secure a commitment from Whiteside I will support it. We can't afford to waste this off-season.

This caused me to go down the twitter universe rabbit hole.... It's a bit interesting.

It appears that Whiteside/CJ both recently started following each other. Whiteside/Dame have been hooked up for a while (earlier this year?). Whiteside/Chief have been following each other for quite a while.
Whiteside follows <400 people/organizations. When scrolling through who he follows, there aren't a whole lot of active NBA players - maybe around 15ish. He's connected to 4-5 Heat players, 3 Blazers, and 1 player here or there on lots of other teams.

This doesn't mean jack squat... but it's interesting to say the least.

If Whiteside signs with Portland I'll dress up like Robert Preston and sing this song. And I hate musicals.....

    It's definitely worth noting.

Sure they can, it's not nazi Germany lol.

Whiteside would be perfect. He would even challenge those midrange shots we freely give up.

No he wouldn't. Whiteside biggest problem is that he's bad guarding the pick and roll.

Who said anything about pick and roll? His wingspan allows him to sit back and challenge those shots. He's perfect because the blazers don't ask their center to guard the p&r

Just from reading this it's clear you haven't watched him play. Whiteside drops deep into the paint on every pick and roll. He gives up the exact midrange jumpers the Blazers love to give up because he can't come out and guard the shooter.

    If we land Whiteside...

I'm going after Sabonis using a combination of: Plumlee or Vonleh/CLE pick

I've seen him block many of those shots, or at least bother the shooter into missing.

Wonder what kind of pick we can get for plumlee/Cleveland pick. My guess is mid 1st. I'm keeping Vonleh and developing him.

Even now, teams are making offers to player agents. It's not supposed to happen yet, but it does and is happening now with the upcoming free agent players.

Plumlees expendable because we'll more than likely add a FA center and we already have Davis, Vonleh, and Meyers with Hark and Aminu being smallball 4s.

Toronto's 9th pick is a possibility. Thru likely don't want to overpay for Biyombo and Plumlee would replace him.

New Orleans at 6 is a possibility but we'd have to add another asset to the deal. Anthony Davis and Plumlee would fit each other extremely well.

Just watched A Kris Dunn interview, roughly 2 minutes long. He said "Ya know" about 20 times..... remind you of anyone???

Other than that I really like his game.

He's perfect for Portland because he doesn't hedge out and recover well but Stotts has his C hang back at the rim where Whiteside is lethal. Seems like a very good fit for Portland's defensive scheme.
