I'd much rather have Horford here than Howard to be fair.

People have personal feeling about Howard from his Rockets tenure mainly. I like his ability to rebound on the offensive glass and rim protect at an elite level.

Horford is solid, but I he's no where near the rebounder Howard is (12 vs 7 RPG).

Yeah I don't see how Horford makes Portland a contender. It seems like a "safe" move. He does a lot of things well, but he's not really a rim protector, nor is he a go to scorer.

Dwight is riskier, but comes with game changing ability. That being said, I'd rather go after Whiteside. Younger, cheaper, better.

Yes, he's too limited offensively. This year, he's done a decent job overall hitting his open 3s, but it's unreliable. And you have to look away whenever he handles the ball. And for example, remember that wide open mid range shot he had last night, it was like a 15 footer and he didn't even hit the rim.

I think Harkless could be a starter at forward though, as long as we pair him with a stretch 4 like Ryan Anderson. I'd also try and find an upgrade over Plumlee.

We have GOT to get a rim protector. We need what Tyson Chandler was to the Mavs when they won the title. I did really want Nerlens Noel, but then I read this. Ian Mahinmi would make sense but isn't a free agent (and why would the Pacers give him up?). Festus Ezeli looks like he's going to get big offers too. Cut rate versions would be Cole Aldrich or maybe Ekpe Udoh or Kyle Hines. My dark horse candidate is Joakim Noah. He's getting long in the tooth and broken down, but he's a FA and is pissed at their coach, and he's a great passer, so would fit with Stotts' system. But I've said all this before...

Don't have enough money to sign two max free agents.

It sounds like Horford would like to stay in Atlanta. He has a great relationship with his coach, teammates, and fans.

Al Horford wants to stay but Hawks 'have some big decisions to make'

Horford makes something extreme like 40 MIL more over the life of the contract if he stays with ATL and they give him the extra year (Which they will). Hard to turn that down.

4 years ago sure. But I no longer a fan. His body is really starting to fail him as well.

Some realizations that I think we've come to recognize from watching the playoffs:

    1. Plumlee is simply too limited offensively. His passing is great, but he can't shoot, he's not a great finisher, and he has no confidence around the hoop. He should realistically be coming off the bench.

    2. Ed Davis is a better player than Plumlee coming off the bench.

    3. CJ is not a point guard. When Dame is not in the game, CJ looks for his own shot. Between CJ and Hendo, the ball completely stops moving. The problem is that CJ is supposed to be our point guard.

    4. Aminu and Harkless are essentially the same player, although they defend different positions.

    5. Vonleh is too raw to start or count on for big minutes.

    6. Crabbe is going to get paid.

I look at Plumlee and I see a guy that needs to be coming off the bench. The problem is that we have Meyers and Ed, and frankly I'd rather have Ed getting the minutes. Right now, I'd pair up Plumlee and Vonleh and try to trade them for something of need.

We need a high quality power forward or center. Someone that can score, either from the post or as a stretch four.

Step 1: If I'm Neil, I'm at Whiteside's door at 12:01 AM. He fits our window. He's a rim protector. He's perfect for what we need.

Step 2: I'm calling Atlanta and I'm offering Plumlee, Vonleh, and Aminu for Millsap. They need to blow that team up.

Step 3: Re-sign Crabbe, Harkless, and Meyers.

Step 4: If we have any money left, make a pitch to Delly to be our backup point guard.

    Dame/Delly
CJ/Montero (I want to see him get some minutes)
    Harkless/Crabbe
    Millsap/Davis
    Whiteside/Meyers

From this list, the only guys I'd even hope Neil would consider:

Al Horford UFA (ATL) - I think this is a reasonable target
Kevin Durant UFA (OKC) - I sincerely doubt he'd come here.... but part of me hopes we try
Evan Turner UFA (BOS) - I like Turner. I actually think he'd fit in here perfectly. He can't shoot very well though.
Jarred Sullinger RFA (BOS) - RFA and I think Boston matches
Jeremy Lin UFA (CHA) - eh....
Pau Gasol UFA (P) (CHI) - I like Pau. I think he'd be great. I think he signs with the Spurs.
Timofey Mozgov UFA (CLV) - meh
    Jordan Hill UFA (IND)
Ian Mahinmi UFA (IND) - I like Mahinmi, not a bad guy to go after
    Cole Aldrich UFA (P) (LAC)
    Hassan Whiteside UFA (MIA)
    Luol Deng UFA (MIA)
    Ryan Anderson UFA (NOP)
    Jason Smith UFA (ORL)
    Boban Marjonovic RFA (SAN)

    Nerlens isn't a free agent.

CJ for Okafor might be worth it, though I think we might have to pony up more.

Though a step down, Hendo and Crabbe, and even Harkless can ably man the SG spot. And we get the inside scoring option we seem to need.
