If we strike out on all the big name center free agents, i think brook lopez is a guy id see if brooklyn is ready to move on from. Definitely over greg monroe anyways.

Agree he's preferable to Monroe. Don't think Brooklyn would give him up cheap - they're already very likely to be worst team next year but don't have their pick, so have no incentive to tank.
If Olshey's signings last year are any indication, he's got some reasonably priced signings lined up for when we whiff on the big signings - I say Mahinmi or Ezeli (or Aldrich). Who knows, we may finally end up with Hibbert!

Actually it'd make great sense for Nets to move Brook to Celtics who amazingly are still in a dire need of a center despite having about 47 picks in the draft, and taking their pick back (if Celtics are interested in that at all). They will be dreadful next season for sure, Caris LeVert or not.

I think it's going to be Howard. He is the only free agent to supposedly have expressed interest in Portland. A bird in the hand, etc etc.

But if it IS Howard, the best thing that could happen would be Horford signing with Boston. That would put the Hawks in full blow-it-up mode and maybe we could pry Millsap away from them.

    Dame
    CJ
    Aminu
    Millsap
    Howard

That's a decent team right there.

It's different being in charge when you don't have 2 All-NBA starters on your roster.

I think it's a mistake to think "we're weak at ___ position so we should target players who play there" in today's NBA. I think once Aldridge left, we became a team of interchangeable parts. What we do need to think is "we do ___ poorly as a team, will x player help us with that?" So maybe that means we target players like (possibly) Whiteside or Biyombo or (more likely) Ezeli, but not because we have a hole at C, and that shouldn't make us think "so we have to get rid of Plumlee now". If Toronto re-signs Biyombo are they going to trade Valanciunas? Only if he's unhappy or they're financially strapped, but not for basketball reasons.

So the kind of players we need to target are versatile, team-oriented and unselfish. Oh, and good defenders.

For the reasons above, I also think we're okay at PF. Aminu defends most of them (and is better suited to PF than SF because of his shaky dribble), Ed can rebound like a mofo, and if they're really big, Plumlee can defend them. Plus, of course, the coaching staff might have more belief that Vonleh will develop than some of us (me included). Now, none of them is a star, but who cares? Each of them can be part of a really good unit on the floor.

What does Windhorst know? Nobody is talking about Portland as a destination for ANYONE. Seriously, ESPN doesn't give a shit about Portland. I really hope we come out of nowhere and snatch someone big like Horford or Whiteside because it would blow their minds.

Technically, sure. But we "signed" Aminu right at midnight. That was, for all intents and purposes, resolved.

I hope it's resolved on July 1st also; will make it much easier to decide what to do after that. And it should be easy to make a decision; get a max contract, play with Lillard and McCollum and a bunch of fun but dedicated-to-winning teammates. Live in a nice city where it's not too hot to go outside in the summer and have a great fan base! If he decides he doesn't want to go to Portland; then I will know he is a poor decision maker and I wouldn't have wanted him.

The Bulls still want to trade Taj Gibson.

If we strike out in free agency I would take him over someone like Biyombo coming in at 15 MIL a year plus.

He makes 9 MIL and only has one year left on his contract. They would probably give him away for just cap space at this point (I would send Project Pat for him though to open a roster space).

Any interest in that case? He isn't a stud of course but he is solid and a PF that could play for 1 year until Vonleh is ready. Certainly not a needle-moving deal but someone to consider in plan D or so.

He could be a decent starter that wouldn't cost much to acquire.
