I doubt that Indy and Ptld would negotiate anything.....

IF we can't move Vonleh or Leonard or Harkless or Turner then you might have to consider this because you can't pay Napier and Davis this summer in that case anyways. I still would probably turn it down since Napier and Davis are two guys who I think SHOULD be on our team next year (as in they bring value and will continue compared to their contract - both now and going forward). I would however send Noah with Leonard instead if they were interested. That gets them a little savings going forward.

These Several teams would be the top 2 teams from the West and the top 3 teams from the east. They can afford to wait and get someone for free (because players want to go ring-chasing).

...of which Portland is unable to participate due to being in the Lux Tax. So much fun what Neil has done to this roster.

    This system is so broken.

Neil fucked us over. The summer of 16 was a disaster. The lack of cap smoothing was such poor foresight by both the teams' front offices and the players association. GS made out like bandits because of this and teams like ours get royally screwed over.

What is so broken about the system? Good teams plan ahead and can take advantage of it.

Teams with less foresight (like Portland) end up making stupid decisions, which have a compounding effect.

That's the way the world operates.... People (or teams) that do stuff better than their piers are the ones who succeed.

That's not true as we still have the MLE as well as the approximately 13 mil trade exception that could be used. All depends on what PA will allow as it would cost some luxury tax money.

The rich get richer. Cavs didn't plan shit. They poorly managed their cap and are held together by strings (partly because of Lebron), but they always get guys like Bogut/Deron/etc off waivers. Raptors are in a better position both roster wise and financially, but they won't get a bite on a single waiver candidate.

GS planned well, but did get incredibly lucky also. They were paying Curry peanuts because he was always hurt. His low #, and the massive cap spike allowed them to get KD. But not just that, they now also get first dibs on ring chasers like David West on a minimum contract.

As I wrote, Neil needs to be ultra careful in this market, and he over-extended his resources for mediocrity and can't dig himself out. He's not without blame.

Just one (of many) examples, would be the Varejao trade.
We were under the floor & NO got a first from Cleveland to take him on. Instead of keeping him on the roster until June and trade him again in the off-season, NO cut him and stretched his contract. We are still have Varejao's $2M cap hit on our books. His contract is going to cost Portland $3M in tax this year & another $3M for the next two years.

The year we cut him, we were under the salary floor - so we could have kept him without any additional cost. It's little things like that 'small' decision that makes a big difference.

Pretty sure that was Neil doing Andy and his agent (Dan Fegan) a solid. Agreed on how small decisions tend to blow up in this environment.

Are they; has anyone seen them make a lot of crazy moves? If the Spurs want Bradley, then I do. Vonleh, Connaughton, Swanigan and Layman for Bradley. Or Harkless and a first and a second. Or a first plus Vonleh plus Davis.
Once I got Bradley, I am getting rid of Turner. Turner and Nurkic for Oubre and Mahimni. BTW, Mahimni has played over 20 minutes a game in his last four and is shooting .733 for the season.

Although our draft pick will likely be higher than Spurs.
