No thanks! Other than dunking, what is it that Gordon does so well? He's a bit of a tweener. ORL tried him at SF last season and that a disaster. So, they moved him back to PF, where he is a below average rebounder for his position, a below average 3-point shooter and a net negative defender.

Sure, he's only 22, but he's going to command big bucks this summer. Gordon is clearly a better offensive player than Zach Collins at this point, but 20-year old Collins is already a better defender and a better 3-point shooter. Gordon is going to get paid like a No. 2 option, but he's at best a No.3 or No. 4 option on a contender. Collins is locked up on a cheap rookie contract for several more years. I'd rather keep him than get stuck in a match or loose this summer situation with Gordon.

The Magic don't want Nurk since they already have Nikola Vucevic. Also Nurk is a RFA, and they aren't in spending mode.

I'd easily do Collins for Gordon. He's a crazy athletic 4 that can stretch the floor and start right away. Collins is a couple seasons away from being a legit starter.

    Aaron Gordon career 3FG% = .308
    Evan Turner career 3FG% = .300

Not exactly the two guys I want "stretching the floor" at the starting forward spots.

He's also a negative defender and a below average rebounder for a starting PF.

And, he's an RFA who is going to command big bucks this summer. How could POR possibly retain both him and Nurk?

I'm not looking at this in a vaccuum. I think with Dame/CJ, and one of our bigs (either Nurk or Zach), Gordon will be terrific. He only has Fournier now to keep defenses honest. Get him more open looks from 3, and make him our finisher on the P&R, and I think he projects out like an Amare with a somewhat decent 3pt shot.

So, if we're not looking at this in a vaccuum, if we make a trade, how do we retain both Nurk and Gordon this summer?

Last year, he had Fournier, Ibaka and Vucevic to keep defenses honest, and he sucked. Sure, they were playing him out of position at the 3 prior to trading Ibaka, but that's kind of the problem. He seems like a real tweener to me. He's a below average rebounder for a starting 4 and a negative defender, but doesn't have the handle or 3-point shot to be a 3.

And, he's going to get paid - a lot. Somebody will throw stupid money at an athletic 22-year old and we will be stuck in the same match or loose situation we were with Crabbe. Of course, Gordon is better than Crabbe, but is he a near max player? IMHO, no he is not. He's at best a 3rd or 4th wheel kind of player on a winning team and you can't afford to pay him like he's a 1st or 2nd wheel.

For me it's not about shooting. They had garbage PG play, which is the biggest factor for a PF like him (in the Amare mold) to be successful. Adding Gordon would really help the fast break.

As for resigning him and Nurk? This team will have to pay a crazy tax bill for a while until they start shedding those terrible contracts when they are expiring.

No it won't. The only thing that could help the fast break is a new coach or a new PG...and it might take both in order for us to be successful on the break.

sounds like speculation to me, but i think we're primed to replace our depth in the front court with another high-profile player.

At the very least, if the opinion around the league is that we're looking for a 3rd star to pair with Dame & CJ, that means the general consensus is Nurk's value is going down. He may not attract huge offers from other teams.

I disagree... I think Nurk has star potential, he is just 2-3 years away from consistency and Blazers need players to bring it every night while Dame/CJ in their prime. It’s a timing thing more than knock on Nurks talent.

Lol there is absolutely no move this team can make right now that would catapult them into immediate contention. Just don't have enough assets.

George was pretty much the only hope.

This is a process. And they're still years away.

Years away? Im sure that's what Paul Allen told Dame. Dame & CJ might as well leave if that's the case.

Missing out on PG, although not really Neil’s fault, is looking more and more painful. He’s already talking about “the decision becoming a lot easier” regarding resigning in OKC because of their record and Westbrook’s leadership. I bet we would be right there with Minnesota with him on our team, Dame is one of the better leaders in the league, and he’s a couple hr flight from LA. Man, what could have been.
