I read President Biden statement. It is easily available. I don't always agree with him but this time I do. What was done was totally outside legal precedent, an agreement worked out with DOJ was nixed by partisan put in by Trump to dig up dirt. I can see why Biden did not act before election but no reason not to now.
There is also well founded feat over how Trump Justice department, unable to lock up Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden, would treat Biden's son. And I agree with @Everything Beagle that I would not vote for Hunter Biden.

What father wouldn't pardon his son or daughter, if given the opportunity....He absolutely did the right thing.

Except that now, if called before Congress, Hunter can't plead the 5th.

Big deal. All he has to do is lie like everybody else. And as the soon to be 47th president has proven time and time again, Congress is useless as tits on a boar.....and toothless to boot.

I’m all for this honestly (if I’m allowed to indulge in a little nihilistic accelerationism), but I wonder if we will miss the era when more than zero of the parties in power had some sense of fair play. Feels a bit like that was the only thing hobbling us along.

Make no mistake, whatever government comes out of the ensuing chaos of naked corruption engulfing both parties will be what our country becomes for the next 250 years, but right now that could be ANY kind of government, even a good one!

Lol nobody gets to talk shit about pardons given the fact he's about to let out people who, by his incitement, were part of a coup to overthrow the government and put in verifiably false electoral votes.

    Sit this fake outrage out.

Bush 1 pardoned his son. Clinton pardoned his brother. Trump pardoned his daughter's father in law and named him ambassador.

If you are going to clutch your pearls over Biden, did you do the same for other presidents?

Let's see how "comparable" the comparables are...

Can you point that out in this list? I'm not seeing it.

    https://www.justice.gov/pardon/pardons-granted-president-george-h-w-bush-1989-1993

Roger had served and completed his prison sentence 14 years before he received his pardon. This is very much not that.

Similar to Clinton, Kushner had completed his sentence well over a decade prior to the pardon he received.

My brief research indicates that none of the family-related pardons you reference even reduced, let alone prevented, any prison stay. This blanket pre-sentencing pardon is in face unprecedented, and may even be worthy of pearl-clutching.

Were the sheets also pardoned or was it just the blanket?

While all of that is true,

We all know what the dumbass is going to do with his pardons since that was a major talking point of his klan rallies.

So yes, while unprecedented, it is not without knowledge that the dumbass was already on record saying he's going to pardon people that tried to overthrow a government and install fake electors.

So yes, in that perspective, pearl clutching is indeed not justified since that would make them hypocritical. Which is just a synonym for supporting the dumbass Trump, anyway, since they have no morals or values to speak of.

Unlike some liberal blue state voters I never once thought Joe was a Bernie Sanders Democrat. Joe is a hawk with a love of defense contracts. Probably has contacts in the arms racket that go back 50 years. I’m not the least bit surprised that he’s using his last month in office to pardon Hunter given the shakeup the DOJ is facing. Same folks who wanted to hang Pence and Pelosi will be policing the govt

Normally, I would be calling out the shadiness of this pardon, no matter the side, but with all the shit Trump and others on the right have gotten away with, it's hard to give to two shits any more.

Neither did I. He was never my first choice. He's far from Bernie.

Not surprised either. Hunter was already going to prison for the stuff he pled guilty to. Then the Republicans were going to keep going after him to keep the spotlight off themselves. Still will too probably. Joe didn't want to see that for his son. Most dads in his place would have done the same. You can bet Trump would.

I don't know if there is any real deal to this Burisma stuff. The Republicans couldn't put anything on him for it. Just a bunch of investigations that went nowhere. But, if so Joe wasn't going to let him go down for it.
