I’m sure most well paying employers want their employees to represent them a certain way on social media. Teachers get fired for posting things that go against the values of their district. It’s not just for athletes.

Humans in general should be taught how to use social media appropriately and the ramifications that are out there for being politically incorrect, controversial or just plain stupid.

Yeah, it's called being a public figure. Don't overthink it. Jaylen always seems like one of those intelligent guys who's looking for ways to demonstrate it, just in case people are unaware.

Counterpoint: social media is your private life. If you are revealed to be a Nazi cannibal then you should get fired for that, fine. But if you are revealed to be a human being who swears or gets drunk or whatever then fuck off, none of your employer's business. So you're saying in Florida, with "don't say gay" a gay teacher could legitimately be fired for posting pictures of their wedding on Instagram?

Defensive much? If this is the first you're hearing of him talking about Foucault, then he's not exactly broadcasting it, is he?

I use the old "If you can't say it in person to someone you probably shouldn't say it on social media' approach.

Imagine posting on a platform….well like THIS one….. and having somebody contact your employer TWICE and try to use it to get you fired. That would be CRAZY huh?

Im not saying it’s right, just that it’s the reality. I didn’t watch the video so I’m not sure if his point was that professional athletes are being victimized when, in fact, it carries over to us normal folk, too. Of course, they get more attention because of their platform.

You seem to have missed the word "social" in social media. Socializing is pretty much the opposite of private.

Oh that's great. So what you're saying is there should be no "private" settings on "social" media? If you post at all, everyone in the world should be able to see it because it's social by definition?

This really isn't as difficult as you're making it. If you do set your privacy to only allow those that you follow to see your posts then they are no longer public and are therefore private... as long as you don't do that and then follow the party you are trying to keep the posts from.

I don't know of one corporation or regular business that hires hackers to hack into private posts. That's not what is being discussed though. What is being called surveillance is companies running pretty routine searches on their employees for public posts on social media. It's a misidentification of being surveilled. It's just due diligence at this point.

So if your employer came to you with a complaint about a DM and that DM wasn't shared with them by you or the other party being DMed then that would be your company going after you for private communication and they would have some explaining to do about how they acquired that information but if you post some shit that your employer doesn't want to be associated with, under your name and for everyone in the world to see on social media, then you can reasonably expect for there to be consequences.

There are, but those clearly have no relevance to the conversation at hand. I'd say nice try, but no, that was about the lamest effort I've seen from you.
