I can't remember but there was a series where the 5th seed had hca. It was weird! Maybe it was in the east

There was a series in which the 6th seed Clippers had HCA over the 3rd seed Nuggets. That was the one year in which the division winners were guaranteed a top 3 seed. Clippers and Grizzlies both tried to lose against each other at the end of the season because no one wanted the 5 seed. 6th seeded Clippers made it to second round. 5th seeded Grizzlies got swept by Dallas.

I think the last one was the 4th seeded Celtics played on the road vs 5th seeded Hawks in 2012

    Per Marc Stein Twitter :

Harsh reading for OKC: Only four teams in last 20 seasons rallied from 3-12 start to reach the playoffs. And three of those were in the East

I just don't see how kd and rw can come back without rust and instantly start going undefeated. I think they finish 9th

I remember back in the 90s when Phoenix started the season 0-13 and still made the playoffs.

At this point they would have to play 750 ball and we would have to play 600 for them to just barely finish better than us. Neither are impossible but both would be VERY difficult. Should be interesting. If they played 750 starting right now then they would have 53 wins and if we played 600 ball we would have 51.

They have some easier teams in the next week - if they lose a few of those they begin to fall into serious jeopardy.

Yep, 96-97. That was a strange year for the Suns. At different points in the season, they were 0-13, 10-24, 15-31, 19-35, won 11 in a row (and 14 out of 15) and almost ended the season 41-41.

AND not only that, they won the first game in the playoffs, could've won the series in 4 (they went to OT in game 4) AND weren't the 8th seeded team.

The three teams IMO that OKC has to beat for the 8th spot are Phoenix, Sacramento, and New Orleans. I think the Clippers will make it in and everyone else who is currently in. OKC is currently 7 back in the loss column from those three. I think they can make up about 10 games against those three.

I think you nailed it. I suspect the Blazers will win the division, but that doesn't mean OKC will miss the playoffs. These 3 teams you mentioned are all young and should have some adversity as the season progresses. How they handle that adversity, especially with OKC nipping on their heels could be a huge factor

If they miss 10 more games, and the Thunder are fortunate enough to double their current win total in that span, that would put them at 6-19. That would mean they'd have to go 42-15 the rest of the way just to match the 48 wins that Phoenix missed the playoffs with last year. To reach 50, they'd have to play at a 63-win pace.

Basically, if their stars miss 10 more games, the Thunder's playoff chances will be very low.
