Yeah, I saw him on the bench next to Curry who was there because he got lit up by Huerter. But like I said in other posts, yes he would have to improve his FT's.
And I find it very hard to believe he couldn't. Simmons IMO would be a high-risk high reward target.

Why is this high-risk? There’s now a possibility that you can get him without having to give up any picks. You don’t have to give up Dame either. That’s about as low-risk as you can ask for.

High salary and he can't shoot. (That is risky to me) But I would do it.

It wasn’t a comment directed solely at you, which is why I did not quote your post. My apologies. I’ve seen many people say “but what about the other side of the ball.”

Which doesn’t contradict my issue with him. You cannot play him. So it doesn’t matter if he was the greatest defender on the planet if you’ve got to take him out of the game.

And… he has been in the league for years. As Charles said on TNT, Philly has been saying the same thing for 3 years. He has gotten worse, not better.

I assume Philly would trade him trying to get value based on his potential while other teams will say, no he is what he is at this point.

You can play Simmons at the end of games... the 76ers didn't, and look where it got them.

Rivers clearly lost confidence in Simmons in a big way. Whether it was justified or not, sitting him down while putting in guys that repeatedly failed to executed against the Hawks simply cannot be considered good coaching.

Simmons at Point and they can’t trap Dame no more.

The announcers, entire NBA on TNT crew, and most media think he can’t be played at the end of games.

Which, they also tried, and it wasn’t working either.

I think this was the first time he actually went to George Hill in the last two minutes or whatever it was, actually.

And his defender essentially gets to play “rover” since he can’t shoot and is apparently now afraid to even dunk the ball or attack the basket — which is something that he could probably overcome since that is a new habit.

Embiid and Doc throwing Simmons under the bus and backing up over him again in their post game interviews. Pretty much says exactly what I think of the culture Doc sets over there.

Props to Ben and showing up for that shitshow of a postgame interview also

“Can’t trap Dame, let’s just hack Ben instead, heard that also works.” LOL

Simmons would not play point. Hed play the draymond role. He's not a career 30% shooter.

I get what you are saying. It is a concern. I don't ever expect him to be a good jump shooter...... Ever. But I don't think he has to be IF he can improve his FT%.
That is one skill set that I have seen players get better at over the years. He could at least get to Giannis level and no one would turn him away.

I actually think he is a better defender and ball-handler than Giannis.

I think you are probably right.
But not sure I would be willing to risk paying him 40 mill or whatever based on a “think” so.
    He sets great screens too.

what it is is Simmons making 35M year; but CJ makes more than 33M. Really not much of a difference. It's pretty clear Portland is going nowhere with CJ. Might be the same destination with Simmons, but at least it would be altering the team in a dramatic fashion, and there is a visible theory of how Simmons would fit. He sure has a major wart though

With a minimum of 70 attempts, Ben Simmons' 34.2% free throw percentage this postseason is the worst in a postseason in NBA history.

I know that sounds bad, but I love it. It is exactly what the Blazers needed. We needed Simmons and Philly to embarrass themselves against an underdog ATL team And they did. Seems like a good time to try to pry him away. And also a good motivation for Ben to work on his FTs. He did shoot 61% this year so it's not like he was at 32% for the year.
