Yeah who knows. I just know he’s not with the team as of now. Maybe they convince him to come back so they can get value back? If he pulled a Kawhi, he basically is refusing to come back until they let him go or trade him

Of course there's incentive for a buyout. The whole point is that the team negotiates the player taking less money on that final season. It doesn't help the cap but it does save from the bottom line. Otherwise we would never see buyouts during the last year of a contract.

did you notice it was said he's refusing to play?

in other words, he's breaking the contract he has and that could easily mean the Spurs have suspended paying his salary. If the Spurs are off the hook for paying any salary to him for the rest of the year, why would they jump back on the hook to pay a buyout?

He has made comments like that. I will wait and see what happens.
My emotional Blazer Fanatic take is i don't want him here.
My reasonable side says "what can he do to help the team win?"

so the Blazers uniform is basically just in grey scale?

    wow. so imaginative.

And Miami's uniform just looks like they were forced to wear the uniform of the winner the finals (the Lakers) as punishment.

He was getting benched nightly. Doesnt surprise me. He looked like he was done. But it would surprise me if they bought him out -- Spurs dont usually do that.

Was just on spurstalk. They all think Aldridge is coming back to Portland in case they dont find a trade for him by the deadline.

maybe that is just lazy speculation?

I mean, Aldridge isn't a SF, he's either a PF or a C. If PF, he's going to be taking minutes from RoCo and Melo. If C, he's going to be taking minutes from Nurkic and Kanter. Whose minutes get sacrificed?

I guess Melo is the most likely candidate:

I'd be fine with seeing less Melo, but bringing Aldridge back would be the ultimate meh move....yuck

The good news for LA is if he does return to Portland, there are no fans in the stands to boo him.

My disdain for Melo is well documented, but I honestly would rather stick with Melo than Aldridge.

you'll get low efficiency and high usage from both. Melo has lower efficiency and higher usage. And, Melo has lower assist numbers and higher turnovers. Melo also pounds the ball a lot more than Aldridge does, and holds it longer on each of his possessions. Aldridge is a better rebounder and has been a much better defender throughout his career, although I wouldn't think Aldrdge would be that effective defending stretch-4's and small-ball PF's. Of course, Melo isn't good at that either

but the thing about a choice between Melo and LMA is that it isn't a case of picking the best option; it's a case of choosing who would be the worst option, then going for the other guy. Neither guy is an attractive option. I guess if Zach isn't coming back this season, Aldridge makes a little sense, but as far as I'm concerned he would just be another guy in a Blazer uniform I wish wasn't there
