Now why would we use a draft pick on him?? Sure he's 7'8" or 7'9" but can he play basketball? From what I hear so far all he has a nice little jumpshot but no effective post up game yet. So I dont know about drafting him. His height is intriguing though so I would sign him and take a look at him(I dont think he's going to get drafted) to see if we can develop our own slightly taller Yao Ming. But drafting him right now...I wouldnt do it.

We would have a DOMINANT center. If you thought Yao was a giant, this guy is 3-4 inches taller than him. I am convinced it is impossible to suck being that huge.
First off, im new here, hey. I am a long time knicks fan and a season ticket holder. I go to many games and I feel I have a great knowledge of the game and the team. Now to the highlight of the knicks season, the upcoming draft. Who do you guys think they will take. Me and Knicks Analyst actually had this arguement on another board. He thinks Gerald Green. I disagree because Green will prove himself in the draft workouts and move up to the top 6 in the draft. I think they will go big anyways because they have no REAL needs besides a bigman. How long can Isiah avoid getting a bigman. I think it wil be one of the Euro's like Tiago Splitter. What are your thoughts?
Hey, what's good? It's always nice to see a Knicks fan up in this forum. Splitter and Green are tough choices, but I think I might go with Green. His upside his tremendous and he is very young. I like his game and he can give us some good intensity off the bench and in the next 2 years, he can have a break out year when the roster clears up a bit. Imagine having a McGrady-likre player with an Elton Brand-like player along with Ariza (don't know who he reminds me of) and a hopefully mature Jamal Crawford. To to it all off, Jackie Butler could be a decent player and could be in the middle as well.
I remeber i suggested green a while ago and everyone said no more guards. Maybe it was on another forum though.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting mrj18:</div><div class="quote_post">I don't remember Green. I remember you said that we should have drafted Julius Hodge though.</div> Julius Hodge is a second round pick at best. I think with our second pick we should persure Channing Frye or Johan Petro.
I also like Danny Granger a lot, heres a nice little blog on him from nbadraft.net: Strengths: An extremely well-rounded wing...Can do just about anything on a basketball floor...Ferocious rebounder...Grabs the ball at its apex and isn?t shy to protect it with his elbows...Puts up monster numbers, even when facing constant double/triple teams...The unquestioned leader on the floor...Tremendous shot-blocker...Quick hands...Plays passing lanes very well...Always around the ball...Has all the physical tools, instincts, and intensity to be a shut-down defender...Plays with great intensity and passion...Has great range on his always-improving jumper...Has added the 3-pointer to his arsenal (almost 48% from beyond the arc)...Has a better post-up game than other wing players...Improving spot-up shooter...Runs the floor well...Decent ball-handler...Great finisher...Much better footwork (on both ends) than most players his size...Great build...Long arms...Has cut down on the stupid fouls that have plagued his game in the past...Still has some upside left...A gamer. Weaknesses: Durability is a major concern...Back/knee problems have forced him to miss parts of the past three seasons...His perimeter skills need extensive polishing, since New Mexico requires him to play inside so much...Needs to become a much better passer...Doesn?t posses a great first step...Just an average athlete, nothing spectacular...Occasional inconsistencies at the foul line (due to a small hitch at the top of his free-throw stroke)...Sometimes forces his offense too much...Inflated stats because of the Mountain West?s lack of talent...The proverbial ?jack of all trades, master of none?...Will have to accept being a role player on the next level...Stamina issues...Has never had a positive assist/turnover ratio.

No. Petro wont be around when our second pick comes around. He has a good deal of potential and is a true center. He probably wont fall into the twenties. But if you want a good big man for our second pick Fran Vazquez(I forgot how to spell it) might still be around. But my personal favorite is Ronny Turiaf. I think he can give us that toughness the Knicks have been lacking since Oakley left. By the way what is it with this Green thing? I'm not too sure but wasn't Darius Miles drawing the exact same comparisons as Green is right now? With high school kids you can either get a great player to build your team around or a role player. Let's not take that chance(especially since we already have a developing swingman).

He is projected but almost all the mocks I've seen as a lottery pick. Some evn have him going in the top 5! I wouldn't mind having Turiaf myself. You can have enough tough guys that mean business. Right now, the Knicks definitely don't have that downlow. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">By the way what is it with this Green thing? I'm not sure of Green's worst case scenario, but I know his best case is McGrady...something Miles wasn't. This Green guy can become something big and also, he can give us a nice intensity off the bench and when he starts in a year or so, he will be great! When our backcourt clears up, he'll fit just fine.

He's basically a seriously underweight jumpshooting big man who plays good defense(not as good as Splitter though) and runs the floor. I wouldnt be surprised if he dropped out of the lottery. Well Darius Miles was supposed to be something big too and look how that turned out. You never know with highschool kids. We dont need a bigtime player out on the perimeter. We need a big time frontline so please NO SWINGMEN .

Hopefully we can get him without our lottery pick. Isiah scouted him in January and loved him. Come to think of it, Isiah is in Europe right now scouting too! <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Well Darius Miles was supposed to be something big too and look how that turned out. There have been many busts as well as success stories out there. He as well as Ariza have the potential to be lockdown defenders on this atrocious defensive team. What is our biggest problem, our lack of size, or our lack of defense? I?d say the lack of defense is what lost us many games. Imagine having two 6?8 swingmen playing suffocating defense. They will have great athleticism as well which will go well for them offensively and defensively too. Sure having a big man will help, but I am confident Isiah will bring in someone like Big Z or Kwame Brown to the Knicks. Having a three point shooter can always help, right? Green is an excellent shooter and has the potential to be the next McGrady/Kobe and even better! Anytime you have such potential, it?s really hard to give up.

Despite what the mockdrafts are saying he's going to drop into the twenties. All he does is shoot jumpshots and play defense. There are plenty of small forwards in this draft that play good defense and can shoot. Why do we need to use a lottery pick to get one? You dont build a team by getting alot of talented players. You build a good team by getting a group of guys who can play together in an effective system. You have faith that Isiah will bring in Big Z?? That's commendable. You're faith is misplaced but it's commendable. I'm almost certain Isiah will do something stupid like trade Sweetney so that we can be a borderline playoff team next season. Kwame Brown is not coming and even if Big Z comes how many more years do you think he has left. We need to stop thinking one season down the line and start thinking where we want to be 3 or 4 seasons from now. If we want to be in a good place 3-4 years from now we'll draft a big man. If we want to be in a bad place...we'll draft Gerald Green.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Tribute to H2O:</div><div class="quote_post">All he does is shoot jumpshots and play defense. </div> Sounds alot like Allan Houston. Except without the defense.

But for some reason, people feel as if this guy is the truth. I wonder why? I wouldn't choose him with my lottery pick, but if he was available with our 30th pick, I'd take a look at him. Petro of course over him. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">There are plenty of small forwards in this draft that play good defense and can shoot. Talented players don't equate to wins as you said, but he can help us. He can turn into a lock down defender along with Ariza. These two with their size, length, and athleticism can create defensive nightmares for other teams in the near future. The defense on the perimeter as been awful and it would take a whole lot of pressure off of our big men. Getting a great coach can realistically be in our future. If we can get a good coach along with good defensive players, do you see a 90's Knicks like future on the defensive end? This guy is also an excellent shooter and he can fill in our need for a 3 point shooter perfectly. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">You have faith that Isiah will bring in Big Z?? Green and Ariza can become 2 great defensive swingmen in 4 years (they'll be only 23 and 21 too!), Green will be a more than legit perimeter threat and can develop into a superstar like McGrady, Sweetney will thrive off the space and create in the post and vice versa. Sweetney can put up 20/10 numbers in the near future and we still didn't mention our other rookies we can get! And let's say it doesn't work out and we end up in the lottery yet again. Maybe that will be our time for us to go get Boone, or Randolph Morrison!
