The talk in the Celtics forum is that Gary Payton is sure he'll be traded. I figured we could maybe make a move for him. Houston trades: SF Clarence Weatherspoon (2.1 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 0.2 apg in 7.8 minutes) C Dikembe Mutombo (4.2 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 0.1 apg in 13.6 minutes) PG Charlie Ward (5.4 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 3.1 apg in 25.7 minutes) PG Reece Gaines (2.6 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.3 apg in 10.8 minutes) Future first round draft choice Houston receives: C Raef LaFrentz (10.9 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 27.2 minutes) PG Gary Payton (12.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 6.2 apg in 33.0 minutes) Change in team outlook: +8.8 ppg, +0.2 rpg, and +3.6 apg. Boston trades: C Raef LaFrentz (10.9 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.1 apg in 27.2 minutes) PG Gary Payton (12.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 6.2 apg in 33.0 minutes) Boston receives: SF Clarence Weatherspoon (2.1 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 0.2 apg in 7.8 minutes) C Dikembe Mutombo (4.2 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 0.1 apg in 13.6 minutes) PG Charlie Ward (5.4 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 3.1 apg in 25.7 minutes) PG Reece Gaines (2.6 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.3 apg in 10.8 minutes) Future first round draft pick Change in team outlook: -8.8 ppg, -0.2 rpg, and -3.6 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Houston and Boston being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Boston had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. I figured that since our key weakness was at point guard, Payton would at least be an upgrade over Sura. He can still pass, and Payton's defense is great. Lafrentz is here because he is a great shotblocker and a good option at power forward. Main reason the Celtics trade him is because of his huge contract that doesn't expire in quite a few years anyways. If we don't agree to take on Lafrentz, it's unlikely the Celtics would want to deal Payton to us. Weatherspoon and Deke are there just because their contracts are close to expiring, while Ward and Gaines are fillers. The first-round pick is our best bait in this deal.
I would like that deal but it doesnt look that likely to me. We arent really offering much other than that draft choice and i think there are better options out there. Both could really be a good fit in our team though and sura just went down.
IMO, the possibility of this trade being accepted totally depends on what Boston wants. They can free up a bunch of cap space with Lafrentz 7 year, $69 mil contract transfered to us and then sign a free agent, or they could get quality players from other offers who would make an immediate impact. I think this has plausible reason to be accepted, considering Boston has drafted a fair amount of future prospects, namely high schoolers and college players with more potential in the future than they have present. And they also have Danny Ainge at the helm.
Is it possible to get carlos boozer from utah. He has been inconsistent and they really suck, maybe mo taylor and some other guys since boozer's contract is pretty large.
Ive heard rumors that Sprewell is another "Van Gundy type" and that the rockets may be interested. I personally do not like Spre and i think he would just be a cancer to our team. On the other hand he does have a past with Gundy so mabye hes one of the few that can control him. However i just dont picture him fitting in.
We don't need Sprewell right now. Wesley and McGrady are doing a good job at the swingmen spots, and Spree would not want to come off the bench. However, I would do the trade if it means us getting rid of Mo Taylor's big contract. We will then have more cap flexibility in the offseason to work on, after Spree's contract runs out.
while sura's out and other of our PGs suck, the rocket may pull a deal for a decent PG, maybe Gary Payton? I really hope they can get someone good. Is there any posibillities for us to trade for Bibby?
It's been done guys, Gaines and 2 second round picks for Mike James. Not a bad one for CD to pull. With that, the trade deadline is here and we won't trade anything. THREAD LOCKED
