Hey Schaddy, I pretty sure he is, I haven't seen him at all in recent mock drafts. He could try out for Sloan and the Jazz in the Summer League [IMG] .

Considering that the draft is in four days, I think this will be their last mock of the year. Unless they really like us enough on JBB to do all that formatting and all that writing again. [IMG]

Regarding the comparative downside for Chris Paul

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Comparative Downside: Kenny Anderson, Pooh Richardson</div>

Those are some pretty damn good guards in their primes to be listed as a downside.

Thanks for the positive feedback EVERYBODY. This will be our last mock draft, but we will update it if some major news is released or a trade goes down before draft day.

    <u>Q&A</u>

    1. Just why the Marcus Camby comparison?
Just like Camby came on strong in his senior year and had a strong tournament, Frye did the same in his senior season. Both players are strong shotblockers, and are physically comparable. Camby was a better rebounder in college, and played with more aggression, but Frye has the potential to improve in both areas. Adding 20lbs of muscle give Frye more confidence to bang inside and shed the "soft" label. He is working hard to get big enough to play center in the NBA. He was 2nd in the strength test to only Joey Graham at the Chicago camp. At one time Camby was also considered a "soft" player until he joined the Knicks.

    2. I loved everything except with the 30th pick, give me Blatche, Knicks need as much size as possible, and give me Tischer over Banks, because we already got Richardson now, we don't need Banks at this point

We made this mock right before the deal, and since it was not official (still isn't) we decided not to factor in the trade. The trade seems to be inevitable, and Blatche would be a good fit at #30. Actually, don't be surprised to see Blatche move into the mid first round. He just started working out for teams, and so far he's been getting good feedback. I think Isiah would gamble on Louis Williams over Tischer.

    3. As for Julius Hodge, how come Utah don't get a big man? David Lee, Ronny Turiaf, Randolph Morris and Andray Blatche would be better. Blatche and Morris, both, are worth the risk.

No doubt Jazz can go big here with the players you listed above, but Julius Hodge gives the Jazz a 3 position player and brings all the little intangibles to a team that Jerry Sloan loves. The Jazz have a solid frontline already with Okur, Boozer, AK47, & Humphries. Hodge can play right away, while the players you mentioned above will likely fight for garbage time minutes. With two picks in the 2nd round the Jazz will still have plenty of options for drafting a big man.

    4. You have Paul going 3rd...do you actually believe that the Blazers will keep him? You mentioned the Blazers-Jazz scenerio, did you take that into consideration when picking Granger #6 overall?

We do not see the Blazers keeping Chris Paul, and we did consider Granger as part of the deal when we put him at #6. Depending on what the Blazers do or don't do at #3, it's going to have a domino effect on the rest of the draft. They really like Webster and Bynum, and they'll try to use #3 to work a trade to land both players. It's probably the reason why they want to trade with the Bobcats for #5 (Webster) & #13 (Bynum).

    5. Couple of things though, do you think Utah will pass up a talent like Felton that can come in and start right away for a reserve in Danny Granger?

Granger is a better talent than Felton. The Jazz aren't high enough on Felton to draft him at #6.

    6. Also, I would want Jarett Jack over Sean May at #13. But that's just my opinion.

It's possible Jack goes to the Bobcats at #13, but with all things being equal and this being a consertive pick, a big man always has higher stock than a smaller player. May has lobbied for the team to pick him, and he's been a monster in his workouts. Jarrett Jack not so impressive, so he's likely slipping out of the lottery.

    7. Is Mike Wilkinson officially dead in the water? Unfortunately he is dead in the water and will not be drafted. The last team he worked out for was the Milwaukee Bucks, but they just couldn't see him capable of playing a position at the next level.

    8. How much work have you put into this?
Many hours, we lost track. We probably revised the mock at least 50 times since the last release. With so much uncertainty, changing one player up or down, effects the entire draft.

    9. Regarding the comparative downside for Chris Paul, those are some pretty damn good guards in their primes to be listed as a downside.

Well there's a reason he's the top rated guard in the draft and was the top rated guard in college basketball last year. Chris Paul is the real deal, and he hasn't done anything to discount his abilities in his workouts. The question will be if he can sustain a high level of play and continue to improve, or will he tailoff like Kenny and Pooh did.

Diogu,Granger and Warrick are getting return visits for Warrior workouts. Comments by Mullin and Higgins seem to indicate they want a pretty much proven F with skills,D,low post offense-which describes Diogu well. Vasquez is a bit taller, but weighs 30lb less and is older-yet only started getting a regular's minutes midseason. Looking at the stats,it's evident one guy DOES,and one guy MIGHT DO,and all the indications have the W's not fishing for some future project who may be a less versatile Zarko. That Granger is getting looked at a lot as a mid-lotto is why he'd not be the W's guy. Bet Blatche will go mid to late #1,he has some skills along with size,IMO-better future than Petro,Martynas,Taft

---also,Salim Stoudamire will get picked late rd 1. The Warriors would grab him at #40 in the second, but he's getting looked at by teams with late first slots. Dwayne Jones will get picked. If teams give non-producers like Petro,Martynas,Ilyasova the benefit of the doubt why not a big man who got 11 boards a game? Pretty much a no brainer somewhere in rd 2,even if he's no shooter. New 14 man roster will let a team have some role players. [IMG]

Well I must say gentlman, job well done! You told me you'd have something in store to rival mine as the best on the net, and you've done just that. Not too many changes, but, the ones that are have been significant enough to make an overall improvment. I was emailing some guys the last couple days, and things are getting CRAZY now. So much BS floatin around who knows whats what. I mean, every team in the Top 10 except for Milwaukee is talking trade, either up or down. That's Atlanta, Portland, New Orleans, Charlotte, Utah, Toronto, and the Lakers. I think the only 2 content teams are New York and GS. However, great job, love to see the effort put forth and the hard work into action. Great insight, good comparisons, excellent job on the links and it's 4 days til DRAFT PARTY CENTRAL! I think this year we're renting out a whole Sports Bar, too bad I'm not still in New York, I might have to rent a VIP suite at the 40/40 Club for this draft!

You are joking right? There is no way a Spaniard aka Cocker Spaniel gets drafted with the 9th pick. This makes no sense but then again a LA Faker fan created this. O yea, u have the knicks drafting Charlie "bust" Frye. HAHAHAHAHA its funny cause its true that the knickerbockers are drafting another bust not so big man. At least the kickerbocker fans have something to boo about!

Camby is/was a much better shot-blocker and rebounder than Frye and how are they physically comparable? Camby is around 225 pounds and was even skinnier when he was in college whereas Frye is around 270 pounds and strong enough to come in second only to the beast, Joey Graham in the strength test. On top of that, Camby has absolutely no post moves whatsoever. He always scores off of alley-oops or hits the occasional 15-footer when left wide open. Isn?t Frye starting to hit three?s now? Camby seems like more of a Vazquez type of player then Camby. Marcus is my boy and all, but I just don?t see the similarities.

We compared the Frye in college to the players around the league past and present. Camby played in 220-230 range in college (he's closer to 240 now), Frye played in the 240-250 range, and even though it's 20lbs difference, both are still skinny guys for their height. Now with Frye adding 20 more pounds it's hard to compare him to another guy until we all get to see a few games with him in his new body. Camby is a good upside comparison, because Frye has a chance to become a better rebounder and shotblocker. If/when Frye improves those skills, then he will be comparable to the player Camby is. Frye is hitting 3's, but don't expect any team that drafts him to expect him to do that on consistent basis. Teams want him in the post, his ability to shoot is just an added bonus. Frye also has no post moves and is raw on offense. I'm sure Camby could hit 3's in a workout enviroment and without any real defensive pressure around him.

Vaz and Camby do have similarities, but Vaz uses his body to bang players around and to position himself defensively. Vaz does get blocks, but most come by getting the offensive player off balance and forcing them to take a low percentage shot. Most of Camby's blocks come from weakside help.

Umm, does the recent trade rumors abour Richardson and Kurt Thomas change the suns pick?

Of course if it goes through I mean, but who do you think the suns would pick?

Not necessarily, you can never have too, many big men. Remember the Suns are losing Jake Voskul and Bo Outlaw to free agency. Having a frontline of Amare-Thomas-Hunter is solid, but drafting a young big man to develop is a good direction for the Suns to still take. By the time Kurt Thomas is done producing consistentl, Petro will be ready to slide into the starting lineup.

The Suns might go for a replacement for Q here too, but it's more likely they'll add a veteran 3pt specialist via free agency. Kerry Kittles? Lucius Harris? Damon Jones?
