Devastating news. I hope Greg recovers, but he seems like he's on his way to Bowie-dom at this point. Will he be extended this summer? I doubt it at this point.
I don't know if we'd let Greg just walk, unless it was really career threatening. But who knows at this point. But we won't have to worry about three guys making near max money.
well greg probably wont want to be extended this summer. him and his agent probably want him to have a good year next year so he can get a bigger contract..
I think Oden owes something to Portland really. injuries aren't his fault but he can't just leave us high and dry like this and bolt. I don't think he gives up here on us.
That will be awesome in terms of team chemistry. If KP still believes in GO, he needs to offer him a 4 year/$32 million deal and see if he blinks. If KP doesn't believe in GO, may as well not extend him at all.
What's the recovery time on this kind of injury though? I took Oden two seasons to get into this kind of game shape. Can we expect another two seasons before he's back to this? If that's the case, I don't think he'll be back to himself next season.
If you happen to read this Greg, All the best for a speedy recovery and come back stronger, more beastly than ever.
Nate's doing a nice job of putting it in perspective in his postgame. You gotta feel sorry for Greg. The dude worked real hard in the summer to come into this season in shape, he worked all off-season with Bayno and Brian Grant on his post moves, and he was slowly gaining confidence in himself that he could be a beast.... I feel real bad for the big guy.
is he playing too heavy? yao had a series of injuries and now his career looks like it might be in jeopardy, same with bynum and this might be oden's second serious knee injury. with the speed of the modern nba- can big, plodding big men survive? and all three of the these players are still very young men which makes their health concerns even more disconcerting.
Ilgauskas had problems, too. I think he's been sorta crippled most of his career even when he was able to play lots of games and minutes.
In a situation like this, I say fuck basketball. Oden sure seems like a good guy, and he's so young. To have to go through a 2nd surgery and rehab and perhaps a big hit against his next contract (or even no contract) has got to be so tough on him. I feel for the fans, obviously, who have so much invested emotionally in him for the team's sake. But for his sake, I hope he keeps his chin up and commits to coming back stronger than ever. Like I posted before, he's only 21 and this is far from a career ending type injury. He's got everything to work for and there's no reason to give up on him.
