For people who aren't that high on Mitchell but were resigned to the fact that he'd probably come back, I this is great news. I like the 3 year contract, because it doesn't tie us down too much to a coach who I still feel has a lot to prove. And hopefully it ensures that he doesn't get complacent (although I don't think Sam's like that).
I'm glad he's back. He is a good coach, and will become IMO great. Maybe he'll put together a jerry sloan run, 19 years ;0 2 down, 17 to go.
Doug Smith noted today in his random raptor rambling colum that we likely will have some new assistants next year. Not because Sam doesn't want them back but because some of them are going to want to move on to bigger things. This is a great opportunity for Mitchell to get a play book nerd to compensate for his weakness. If we found to do this I'd be relatively happy with our coaching moves. Maybe Triano will be promoted to hitting on Norma Wick after half-time next year.... Edit: press conference for 2 pm today .. expected that raptors will officially announce Mitchell as re-signed. There's been rumours that English has been looking for a head coaching job. I think he's the most likely to leave. Triano's probably our next best assistant, but I don't think he has much of a reputation outside Canada.
