<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">One of the Utah Jazz's biggest needs for next season seems to be at shooting guard, and the team is getting after that right away as it works out its first three prospects today at the Zion's Bank Basketball Center in preparation for the 2006 NBA Draft.
College seniors Maurice Ager of Michigan State, Hassan Adams of Arizona and James White of Cincinnati, all athletic swing-style players, will display their wares for Jazz brass this morning as it gears up for the June 28 draft.
A fourth player had been invited but is injured, said Jazz senior vice president of basketball operations Kevin O'Connor. He said it's of little significance that the first three invitees are swingmen, adding the Jazz also have few centers on their current roster.
Because those three players are seniors, they could be scheduled for workouts earlier than underclassmen, who had to go through a declaration process.
O'Connor said the Jazz usually bring in players of similar size and position for workouts so they all can go through the same drills.
The Jazz will have probably four players in for another workout on Thursday, and O'Connor said some of those will be point guards.
All three of the players working out today for Utah are projected by most mock drafts to be taken lower than the Jazz's first-round pick, likely No. 14.
    "Projections are funny," O'Connor said.
The Jazz also have the 46th and 47th picks of the draft.</div>

Edit: Here's some questions they were asked after the workouts.....

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Maurice Ager - Shooting Guard

Q: How was it out there today?

A: ?It was tough work out there. It?s a little different than what I?m used to, but eventually I got used to it. You got to fight for it and play hard, but it was a good workout.?

Q: Did the Jazz give you guys any indication of what they?re looking for as you guys came in here today?

A: ?Not really, we already know they?re a really good team and that everybody needs to win. Coach Sloan and the Jazz players are disciplined.?

Q: What do you hear in terms of the scouts and your agent of where you might go?

A: ?It?s a tough call right now, it?s kind of early. All I can do right now is control what I can control, and at the end of the day on June 28, that?s when I?ll see.?

Q: How many practices have you been to?

A: ?This is actually my fifth one.?

Q: How did this one rate with the others? Was it about the same?

A: ?No, this one was tough. The breathing?s a little bit different, and it?s something you have to get used to. Every team?s different.?

Q: How much do you learn in these NBA workouts, as opposed to college and high school?

A: ?I?d say the main thing is just being more efficient. Life is so strenuous, and in the NBA you have to slow down and change speeds, just pick up things a lot faster.?

Q: Even if you don?t get drafted by one of these teams, how much do you learn from each one of these workouts?

A: ?I think I?m learning, and you?ve just got to continue to compete. Everybody in this league is pretty good. You?ve got to continue to learn from your negatives, and the stuff that they tell you you?re doing wrong, you?ve got to go home and fix it.?

Q: The team that you go to, there?s got to be something that drives you toward that team. What is it that you?re looking at with this Utah Jazz team that makes you say, ?I?d like to be part of it??

A: ?Coach Sloan--he?s tough. I come from a program with a tough coach. This team?s got a couple guys I know, Rob Whaley, Daron Williams, that I pretty much played high school ball with, and I think it would be a privilege to play with those guys.?

    Hassan Adams - Shooting Guard

Q: How much did the teams, or the Utah Jazz, talk to you about Hassan off the court, how much was that brought up?

A: ?Not too much, because they know me, they?ve been watching me for four years and they know what kind of person I am. Everybody makes mistakes, and it wasn?t on purpose, but at the same time, I apologized to the city of Tucson, to the staff, family and friends, and everybody makes mistakes and you live with them.?

Q: What?s the greatest selling point for you to any team, whether it is Utah or anybody else, about what Hassan could bring to the team?

A: ?For one, just the humbleness and the energy. Around the NBA, there are a lot of teams that lack that energy and passion. I know for me personally, it?s about the passion of the game, it?s the hunger and the energy, and I know I can bring that.?

Q: How about playing for Lute Olson? What did that mean for your college career, and how can that help you in the pros?

A: ?It speaks for itself. Lute Olson?s in the Hall of Fame, and you?ve just got to look at the alumni base that we have in the NBA. We have the most players in the NBA. Just to come through that program for four years was great. He taught me a lot, a big thing about Coach Olson is that he turns you into a man?I?m where I?m at right now because of him.?

Q: How closely have you followed the Utah Jazz?

A: ?Basketball is my life, so I follow every team. The John Stockton, Karl Malone days, and Jordan pushing off Bryon Russell, we live with that?I?ve been watching basketball all my life, especially Utah, when they were making their run. It?s big coming into this facility and meeting the staff and working out for them.?

Q: Because Jerry Sloan was the longest-tenured coach in pro sports, I?m sure you know about his track record.

A: Yes I do, so hopefully I can be a part of it. I?m just happy to be here.</div>

Arizona's Adams Trying to Lose Baggage

    Stickied^

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It's going to be a hectic month for Hassan Adams - both on the court and in court.
Adams is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Arizona who hopes to be drafted by an NBA team.
To that end, Adams finds himself working out for teams that might be interested in taking him in the draft on June 28.
Along with Temple's Mardy Collins, Cincinnati's James White and Michigan State's Maurice Ager, Adams stopped in Salt Lake City on Tuesday to work out and interview with the Jazz.
Adams, who averaged 17.5 points per game last season at Arizona, has "five or six" workouts planned after the one in Utah.
A projected second-round pick, Adams hopes a series of outstanding workouts and a good showing at the Orlando pre-draft camp - if he gets an invitation - will propel him into the first round.
"Who knows where he ends up, if he gets to Orlando and plays well?" Jazz vice president of basketball operations Kevin O'Connor said.
    One problem.
Adams has been involved in at least three off-the-court incidents in the last six months that will have him in court in the coming weeks. </div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Four more swing-type players will work out for the Utah Jazz this morning, but these players are all pretty much considered long shots for the second round.
They do, however, come from good schools, and again, all are seniors, so they've got experience.
Scheduled to be in the Zions' Bank Basketball Center today are Washington's Bobby Jones, a 6-foot-6 defensive specialist who averaged 10.4 points and 4.9 rebounds for the Huskies; Georgetown's 6-9 Brandon Bowman, who averaged 11 points and 5.0 rebounds; North Carolina's 6-6 David Noel, another defensive specialist who averaged 12.9 points and 6.8 rebounds; and Connecticut's 6-5 Rashad Anderson, a 3-point shooter who made 39 percent from past the arc, averaging 12.8 points a game.</div>

Utah had a good workout today from what I hear and I think they're in love with David Noel due to his rebounding and D [IMG] I hope they don't take him, I also heard Rashad Anderson had a horrible shooting day, well compared to what he usually does.....Word on the street is that Hilton Armstrong and Patrick O'Bryant are going to be coming in before the end of the month [IMG]

BTW--Hoopshype has us to workout Will Blalock PG from Iowa St. on the 27th

Does anyone think that with all the swingmen being worked out that it might be an indication that the Jazz don't think Harpring is coming back?

Or another fact is that Harpring is getting old and his knees could give out any game. Who else do we got that could play for him anyways? I'm just hoping we don't get another bust [IMG]

Jazz host potential draftee J.J. Redick, others

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He can't create his own shot. He's not quick enough. He's a below-average defender. He's been disappointing in some big games.
J.J. Redick has heard all the criticisms of his game, and he has one word for those who don't think he should be taken early in the first round of the NBA draft.
"Stupid," said Redick, who matter-of-factly starts rattling off some of his accomplishments during a splendid four-year career at Duke.
"I don't think you can do those things," he said, "if you can't flat-out play." The Jazz took a firsthand look at the 2006 Wooden Award winner Tuesday, when Redick joined Villanova's Randy Foye, West Virginia's Mike Gansey and Australian Brad Newley in a workout at the team's practice facility.
Coach Jerry Sloan was impressed - not only by Redick, but by the other three shooting guards as well. </div>

    Malone weighs in on prospects

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">One Mailman worked on Memorial Day.
Karl Malone spent his holiday in Utah, watching the Jazz put four players through a pre-draft session at the team's practice facility.
Asked by Jazz officials to attend and offer opinions on the big-man workout for Duke's Shelden Williams, UConn's Hilton Armstrong, Bradley's Patrick O'Bryant and Saer Sene of Senegal, Malone took low-key approach.

    ....

Looking at Utah's roster, Malone believes the Jazz could use a power-type player ?who is a little nasty, a little feisty - someone who doesn't mind not helping [an opponent] up.?
It sounded like Sene caught his eye.
?The kid wants to play,? Malone said, ?and he's going to get bigger. It looks like he can carry another 25 or 30 pounds. . . . I like to see young kids who want to play, guys that are hungry. That's what I'm looking for.? </div>

My connections have told me that next week Brewer is coming in with Sefolosha and Douby is coming in to workout next week. That should be one interesting workout if you ask me. Here's what I think Utah's list is so far considering Roy is gone

    1. Redick
    2. Sene
    3. Foye

After all the workouts, that what I think it looks like for Utah so far, I can't wait for some more workouts, Utah also wants to workout Shawne Williams with some more swingmen.

    Jazz Like Senegal 7-Footer

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Patrick O'Bryant of Bradley made a name in the most-recent NCAA tournament and is rising fast on many NBA mock-draft boards. Hilton Armstrong of UConn comes from one of college basketball's highly regarded big-name programs.
Yet it's a name most Jazz fans have probably never heard of before he came to town to work out for the franchise last week that may be the most intriguing among all of the centers Utah will consider when the June 28 NBA Draft finally rolls around.
Mouhamed Saer Sene, a 7-footer from Senegal who has been playing in Belgium, seems to have made quite an impression on Jazz influence peddlers and decision makers who recently watched him audition along with Armstrong, O'Bryant and Duke power forward Shelden Williams.
"I like him," said retired Jazz power forward Karl Malone, who was invited by the team to watch the big men work out and offer his opinions on all four. "No. 1, he's hungry. . . . No. 2, he didn't start playing until 2003 ? three years ago. The habits that maybe he's got that's bad ? he hasn't had them but three years. And the kid wants to play."
It's true that Sene, whose wingspan reportedly measures a whopping 7-foot-8, is still learning the game.
Jazz assistant coach Scott Layden got his first look at the rather raw prospect while working at an adidas clinic about a year and a half ago. But Sene was a true no-name until just recently, so much so that in June 2005 most NBA scouts did not take the now 20-year-old too seriously.
"People have kind of said, 'He's not on the radar screen; where did he come from?' . . . And it's a good question," said Kevin O'Connor, the Jazz's senior vice president of basketball operations.
"A year ago," O'Connor added, "I don't think he would have been considered 'draft worthy,' to be honest with you. But he's improved enough, so now he is."</div>

Brewer is still a question mark if he'll come in, we're suppose to bring in Oleskiv Perechkvoc (SPL?) next week too. SG and SF come in Wednesday and Thursday from what I hear. 1 last thing.......Sene coming in for another workout [IMG]
