One of the reasons I hate Juwan Howard is b/c I watched him take aside then-rookie Patty Mills, who attempted a chalupa-three at the buzzer, and Juwan proceeded to get caught on camera yelling at PattyCakes for taking the shot (and stepping out of bounds instead) very clearly saying "F*ck the Fans". An out-of-touch player who cared more about the feelings of an opponent down by 20 than of the hometown fans paying his salary, and choosing a poor (and public) way of doing it. I don't know how many of the 20k people were happier leaving the arena since Nic got his triple-double. Maybe none, though I doubt it. No one was hurt in the execution of his shot. Losing by 10 is not more crushing to the Spurs than losing by 7.
Looking for a reaction, when everyone has already came to a consensus that if you get your ass kicked... it doesn't matter. Reading is cool. do it.
I think Batum realized he was wrong. Seems like a great guy and wouldn't purposely try to make an opponent look bad.
On top of that, Gregg pretty much said "He's a good kid, we got our ass kicked. Who cares?" And Parker emphasized as much. I'll take their two words than anyone on a message board. lol.
I'm not trying to make Batum look bad. I'm just trying to make a point. If this was Kobe doing this to the Blazers in Portland he would get booed all the way out of town but since it's a Blazers doing it in Portland that makes it OK?
K*be gets booed for being K*be. But let's put your hypothesis to the test. Other than Ricky Davis, I can't think of another time since I came here in 2008 that the board collectively flipped out over an opposing player making a chalupa shot for their fans, or getting a cheap triple-double. If you can find one, I'm very interested. Otherwise, your opinion seems to be a way-off strawman.
Under the same circumstances with the same reaction, it wouldn't bother me one tiny little itty bitty bit. There was no rubbing in the face, or posturing, or 'take that bitches' or anything of the sort. He tossed the ball at the basket from 35 feet at the end of the game and it went in. Not a big fucking deal.
That's just it, isn't it? What he did didn't make the opponent look bad. If they don't want him to shoot the ball, they should play defense until the game is over. They chose to walk off the court instead, so clearly they did not care and have nothing to bitch about if the guy shoots the ball. And clearly they didn't. Has there been one single report of any Spurs players bitching about this? Even Pops excused Batum, saying 'he's a great kid' or something like that when the sports 'journalists' tried to make a big deal out of it. It isn't a big deal. Except here, on S2. Oy vey.
Had he made a bee-line for the hoop, sure I could see why people would be upset. But he lofted a 35+ foot shot. And fans are making a bigger deal out of this than it's worth.
Is there any response by San Antonio about that shot? If they didn't publicly say anything, I don't see how this would be a problem
It's funny you should say that. On the Spurs version of Bedge, the writers do not say anything about it being a cheap triple double, or call for his head. http://www.poundingtherock.com/2013/11/3/5060230/Trail-blazers-outlast-spurs-115-105 http://www.poundingtherock.com/2013/11/3/5060522/morning-rehash-duncan-returns-but-spurs-youngsters-m-i-a-in-115-105 http://www.poundingtherock.com/2013/11/3/5060362/spurs-fall-to-blazers-115-105 And it was only mentioned 10 times out of 800 comments in their game thread. http://www.poundingtherock.com/2013/11/2/5059846/gamethread-for-san-antonio-spurs-at-portland-trail-blazers-nov-2-2013
Since you didn't read the thread AT ALL, Popp said he didn't care about the shot. He understands and Nic is a good kid.
