Iwakawa signed with the Mariners minor league...he'll get a spring training camp tryout to see if he makes the team again. Until then, they've stashed him in the minors...my client at work watches all the Mariners game so I saw most of them last couple years...they need more pitching..and the Mariners are hands down the most popular team with Asian fans overseas...especially Japan. I like the Giants and the Mariners these days....just hate the Dodgers and Angels...sucks that the Dodgers were so good this season
Because both cities view themselves as separate entities in regards to sports affiliation. But don't see each other equals. Seahawks fans don't care about regionaliam because it's the NFL. But where the NBA is concerned,, most Seattle fans won't bring themselves to cheer for their little brothers. Where baseball is concerned, Portland probably deserves a shot soon. The Oakland stadium deal just fell apart. But critics will say, "Portland is too close to Seattle. Not enough corporate firms. The Mariners will sue over loss of broadcasting rights." And then you throw in the Ducks/Huskies, Timbers/Sounders rivalries and there is just enough of a chasm for regular dysfunction. Seattle is beautiful but we aren't just a suburb of it where sports are concerned. People who live here and are fans of pro sports, don't have to pick the Mariners by default. Tha'ts a mistake that people don't make as much any more. Since Portland international profile has raised so much. But it is still there.
Fuck Seattle. Hoping the Giants swoop on ham fighter bro and stanton. Not getting my hopes up though.
^^^^ This.......I like Seattle as a city but they’ve always been Portland’s rival and that’s what regional sports are all about. Plus, I’m old enough to have formed my MLB and NFL allegiances elsewhere because there were no regional “major league” teams when I was a kid and getting interested in sports. Too, as a youngster my antagonistic feelings toward Seattle teams were formed by the very intense and bitter rivalry between the old Buckaroos and Totems of the now defunct Western Hockey League. Other than PCL (Triple A) baseball, that’s all that was available back in the day and we soaked it up for all it was worth. It made for terrific drama and excitement. Those guys made the old Blazers/Sonics rivalries look like a love in......
Ohtani signed with the Angels. Wow, they may end up having the best 1/2 punch since Mays/McCovey. Trout is the literally the becoming the second coming of Mantle. That will be some serious Juju.
No dude, I’m talking real pro hockey. Back when the NHL only had 6-8 teams, all of them east of the Mississippi. The old WHL was just a skosh under the NHL in terms of talent, with players who were either on the way down or were just a half step slower than the NHL guys. Adult men, not teenage kids. Where the players stuck around for years (if not lifetimes) because they loved the city and allowed bonds with the fans to build. Where they became part of the local fabric. Comparing yesteryear’s WHL with today’s WHL is completely apple to oranges. Different animals. Learn history, then post....FAMS
At least Dipoto takes chances. Seattle would have been a playoff team last year if they hadn't run into so many injuries. Olshey is like a diamond dealer with a shit ton of miscut gems quality convincing himself they are worth something.
Heard that the front office in Seattle is devastated. They thought they had him. I was sure he would go to Seattle.
I don't think I've ever seen a team waste more HOF talent than the Mariners. Could have easily won 4 or 5 championships in the 90s if they had just kept the core together.
