Begs the question why would either of them leave Chicago or New York to come to Portland? Seriously why? This even points to them building "Playoff Caliber" teams. Why would the Bulls or Knicks let them leave? If they are doing a good job and they are currently building good teams why would they want to leave their work?
What is even funnier is that he has pulled that article. yes you can still find it but not on his site. Quick is still Jason Quick.
Neither of them are in charge. They are both GMs with a President of Basketball Operations overseeing them. They would have both titles here. So it would likely be a pay raise and autonomy. It's a career opportunity so I doubt the Bulls or Knicks would stand in their way.
But the Blazers have a President in charge of Operations? Dewayne Hankins? Not sure i follow? Has something been put out that would say the next GM becomes both positions?
Did someone in the Blazers ownership say the Next GM was going to be in control of everything? I didn't read that? Sorry. I guess I'm ill informed here? Not sure i understand the snark either?
You're confusing two positions. President in charge of Operations vs President in charge of basketball operations. One is the business side, the other is the basketball side.
The blazers don’t have a president of basketball ops as olshey filled that role along with GM. It’s a safe bet whoever they hire will fill the same roles. That’s why someone who doesn’t have full control with their current teams, like Eversley, Perry, Barry etc, would be interested.
Ahh. Okay. I was always under the impression President in charge of operations was the top dog. I was wondering if the reason McGowen left was because he was going to have to fire Olshey. Who actually fired Olshey? Was that Kolde? Was that Jodi Allen herself?
Again purely on a conversation level. Does any one person ever have complete control when the Vulcan group is involved? I just wonder that? I wonder who fired Olshey really? Who made the call? I wonder who went into his office and told him? I wonder if anyone actually had the balls to do it?
I think Kolde has historically been the hatchet man. I doubt that Chris left because of that, but who knows.
The people at Vulcan like Kolde have fired a lot of people I'm sure. I doubt they give a fuck about the actual firing. They just want to make sure their ducks are in a row before they do it. As far as complete control goes, no executive in the league has it. MJ could if he wanted to be his own GM and technically any owner could but none do. So, Vulcan is just the ownership group over the Blazers. The deal with being both President of Basketball Operations and GM is that you make most moves on your own and then have to answer for it later if the owner/ownership group doesn't like it. You basically just have one less person to answer to and as far as day to day basketball operations you have no one looking over your shoulder.
when it comes to basketball? Yeah, Olshey had full control, especially after Paul died. Jodi by all accounts seemed to just let him do his job. Don’t think it’ll be any different with the next guy.
Yeah, HR has a methodical approach to all kinds of firings. I worked for a Corp. that police escorted top level executives out of Building when fired or laid off. NO is lawyered up thats for sure, and he will probably end up with some sort of negotiated package.
