I can think of over 100 million reasons...

Blake makes over twice as much per year and Turner expires two years sooner.

Doing the math, Blake is owed more than $143 million on his current contract. Turner is owed $35 million. That's $108 million in salary alone, plus possible tax savings for DET.

I'm pretty sure last year's team wasn't $30 million over the cap :dunno:

It’s about the flexibility of making our roster better. The more money we commit to mediocre talent, the more likely we are to be stuck with them long term. I doubt anyone cares about Allen’s checkbook as much as they do seeing this team improve.

That simply isn't true. They actually are more flexible if they don't care about the tax than if they do. See the last two seasons as a perfect example.

Detroit would probably trade Griffin in a second if they were able to save that kind of money AND get their pick back. I actually think the issue would be on Portland’s end. Would Paul sign off on it? Does Blake move the needle enough? Idk about A but since I say yes to B I think it’d be worth it. Blake is pretty much the best upgrade we could make without trading CJ. We either have to take on money or trade CJ. There’s no other way to really improve this roster.

Until they make some hires we have no clue if Griffin is even available though.

Their personnel answers that question. Doesn’t matter who they hire. That contract is an anchor considering where they’re at.

It's official, after the Clips knew CP3 wanted out, we tried to acquire Blake Griffin. Blake Griffin and/or his agent shot that idea down.

Giving your word to a player or agent sounds like exactly what you would want to do before finalizing a deal. Isn't that how you start off a good GM - Player relationship?

Really puts the middle finger incident into perspective.

Yeah, it is. So if we make our roster better, who cares what the payroll is?

Oooooh I love a good conspiracy. Like if the sun is so hot then how come space is so cold, huh? Exactly. We’ve been lied to.

In all seriousness I think he was referring to the PG deal in which we were reportedly offering up all 3 of our first rd picks and anyone outside of Dame, CJ, and Nurk.

In before Neil falls back on Greg Monroe like it was always the master plan.

    Or Okafor...?

I think it's likely if we do make a move of some sort, it is very possible it is for a player we have heard linked to this team in rumors.

Wut? When he mentioned making promises, he was talking about prospects.

And the player they wanted to deal for was George. It wouldn’t have taken multiple firsts to get Griffin.

I guess my thought process is that we can’t make lopsided trades salary wise or sign free agents.

What flexibility are you referring to in terms of player acquisition?

    Why?

He is essentially unplayable in the playoffs against like every opponent.

This should be our way to gauge whether we want a player or not. Are they a liability in the playoffs on either end and will the opponent target them? If so-- stay far, far away.
