I came here to get all the valuable info you guys heard Olshey say, and...nobody knows nuttn? How unusual!
He backed off the over the top Canales praise from his intro press conference. Just basically said we need to focus on the draft first and that will really dictate what direction our roster goes in. Said there is so much uncertainty and different directions this roster could take that they don't know what type of coach would be the best fit. He talked again about the draft being the first player acquisition vehicle and how they just need to add talent to the roster. 'Toine kept talking the whole damn show about how draft prospects fit with our roster and how we need a big stiff but OlShey completely ignores that mindset, says we need talent here and then when we build that talent up we can be in a position to do a Chris Paul type trade to add a franchise player.
How the hell does 'Toine still have a job? I thought that was a one week failed experiment when he got the radio gig but apparently nobody in management listens to any of the broadcasts. The guy is always at a loss for words, stutters all the time, has worthless viewpoints and provides no useful insights. I think Mike, Mike and Wheels just like having him around because he makes them sound like broadcast superstars. Kind of like the hot chick keeping two fatty friends around.
Was 'tone replaced by 'Toine? Cuz I don't understand how you get 'Toine from Antonio...Unless Antoine Walker's trying to make money in other ways now.
Sounds like later in the summer. We'll miss out on some good coaches. Charlotte's going to hire in a week. Orlando's looking.
The good thing is that CHA and ORL look to be our only real competition for any coaches on the market. With CHA's finalists down to Sloan, Snyder and Shaw, it comes down to ORL as our only real competition for Malone's services. With such uncertainty about Dwight and that organization in general, I think we've got a good chance of picking from the coaches on the market, especially once we potentially add two attractive pieces through the draft.
It will be interesting to see who we hire. I really think it depends on how the draft goes. Bringing in a guy like Sloan, with two rookies isn't smart for either side, but if they trade the pick (s) for someone like Iggy and bring in Dragic, then Sloan might be a decent choice
Yes it definitely will. I think it's actually a good idea to wait until after the draft to hire a coach. With so much uncertainty surrounding the draft, and the fact that the Blazers may receive unexpected offers the closer we get, it would not make sense to bring in any kind of coach right now that would/could potentially restrict how we will shape this team. If the draft comes and goes and we end up keeping the picks, I think Malone would be a great choice. Pick up the top assistant in the NBA and let him get his feet wet and learn and grow with the team over the coming seasons. If we get an unexpected offer, or something we cannot refuse that puts us on the fast track back to the playoffs, I agree someone like Sloan would be ideal.
