I like Olshey, Stotts and Paul Allen.....I like the Blazers....I'm not having meltdowns because we're not winning a championship this season..find something to enjoy....if you love Brad Stevens...you should just cheer for the Celtics...I'm a Beavers fan too....if I wanted big market team to cheer for I'd follow the Ducks...kingspeed is a Blazers fan..I respect that...lots and lots of armchair GMs around this place who get worked up every season and have scapegoat hunts....nothing new...meltdown folks have lots of support....different strokes for different folks and so on and so on and Scooby dooby dooby...my wife and I cheer on the local high school basketball team that has no chance of beating the big schools year after year but they play their hearts out....we cheer.
That's one thing I've never understood about Paul either. It wouldn't take a ton of money to have hired somebody like Jerry West as an advisor. Hes the brightest mind in the business. But it's a mute point now.
What year did Allen "rebuy" the Moda Center? I think it was about 10 years ago. Since then he seems to be treating the team a lot more like a business and a lot less like a hobby he just throws money at.
Wasn’t that Shooby Dooby dooby??? Not to nitpick but was just trying to raise the intellectual level of this thread up a few notches..........
Guys like Jerry West usually go for big market opportunities...you hire guys who want the challenge of a small market team.
In the summer of 2016, he signed the following contracts. CJ- 106 mil AC- 75 mil ET- 70 mil MH- 42 mil ML- 41 mil And he paid Varejao nearly 14 mil just for a single draft pick that became Swanigan. That's a commitment to pay nearly 350 mil in just contracts alone that he made in a period of months. This is a year after committing to 130 mil for Dame. Our revenues are consistently among the bottom of the league. If he is running this like a business, it's not really a good one.
Given how much money most billionaire make in other ventures.... are sports teams really that profitable? Even though they are license to print money they have massive overhead. I always figured owners bought teams because they can be passionate about it and support their local franchises. Also, sports helps passify the masses and stops us from chopping their heads off due to civil unrest. So that may be the biggest reason.
Billionaires need losses for tax write offs is my understanding...Paul Allen makes interest on his investments that probably in a couple of weeks cover his Blazers investment..he doesn't give a shit about the luxury tax if it's worth it to win...and he's said that many times..cracks me up how fans worry about the Blazer's budget
I’m coming off a recent Sly and The Family Stone mega binge so the words are still fresh in my head.....
Love his cover of Que Sera Sera.... just perfect. Too bad he discovered PCP and ripped his own band apart. He was a genius.
Mine is (no surprise) “Higher”. Great song......and where Wheels appropriated “boomshakalaka” from I assume.....
Most of the Varejao money would have had to be paid anyway since the Blazers were under the cap floor. You do have a point with the contracts though. I really think he got pretty excited that summer and reacted emotionally as just a year prior was a pretty big low with Aldridge leaving.
Fact is Olshey and the front office banked on some of our young talent making the leap and they underwhelmed....Mo, Meyers ....Mo may still do it...Meyers will probably just be a backup until we let him walk ....is what it is
Family Affair was always the most fun to sing along to, especially when hangin’ out with the guys. One guy would take the lead part, another would handle the falsetto while another would take it low for the “mother bear” part. Good clean drunken teenage fun.......
