School boosters can pay players as much as they want right now. There are no restrictions on player movement year to year. What part of becoming like the NFL will be worse for college football?
I think the transfer portal and NIL are good things that were decades delayed I think re-alignment is not so good, but inevitable the big problem is that college sports, mainly football and basketball, don't have an anti-trust exemption; accordingly, no CBA imagine the NBA with no restrictions on player movement, no draft or age limit, no impediments to super-teams in big markets, no salary cap, no power at all in the league office, but with each team required by federal law to spend an equal amount of salary on women's teams
Who said it would be worse? There are a lot of details that can, in the end, make it better or worse, depending on the decisions of those details. I was simply pointing out that this isn’t a brand new idea chip has. It is already established and there is already a model to follow if they wanted to go that way.
Well, if it were more like a sports league you could possibly gain the same powers as a sports league. Seems like a worthy goal. But if you want to cut out funding for women's sports you'd have to disassociate from the college entirely I'd think. To me, this move and keeping associated with schools sounds better than the current situation. Keeping historical rivals while hopefully correcting the elimination of the conference realignment BS.
Right, so again, that's why I asked what's the difference. Not sure what point you were trying to make. It solves the most important problems, IMO.
sports leagues like the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL all have an anti-trust exemption that allows them to collectively negotiate deals at the same time the players are unionized To get 70-80 major schools on the same page in order to apply for the exemption, and then to get all the student athletes to vote to form and join a union just seems impossible, especially considering the short-term nature of athletes' college careers. and to legally separate football programs from the Universities seems impossible. Who owns the stadium and practice facility? What kind of lease agreements would meet the legal requirement for separation? I'd think any move in that direction would be challenged under Title IX and likely blocked
Why is everything an argument my man? I didn’t quote anyone. I told you what my point was. That this isn’t some new idea is all. You’ve completely turned my statement into something else. You asked what the differences were and there are quite a bit currently, which I stated. I then went ahead and touched upon the better or worse topic that you turned my post into and said it could be either, based on decisions of the details, some of which Wiesen touched upon. This isn’t a, you are right and I’m wrong, discussion. Why you need to make it that is beyond me… I simply pointed out that this isn’t a groundbreaking idea chip has, as it seems is being spun by some. So not sure what your point, or question is? The ones you asked have been answered now a couple times?
who said you suggested this is a new idea? did I quote you or point some specific statement out? when I say being touted by some, I meant the media… If I was addressing you, I would have addressed you. You are welcome for the feedback.
Agreed. But nobody thought a 12 team playoff was possible a decade ago either. I'm not for separation of football and colleges. I think you keep it to help fund Title IX, which IMO is critically important for American society and football and basketball are fantastic mechanisms to fund it.
only because you quoted me first, as if I had directed my original post towards you? sigh… round and round… lol.
Yes, it's almost like I had a question in response to your post, so I quoted you asking for clarification. Then you replied with a non-answer, after which you wondered why you were dismissed. Crazy how that works... Anyway, I appreciate your contribution to the conversation. Which was... Hmmm... not sure what you contributed... But great effort!
yes and your first question implied I said something I didn’t. So it was a bizarre question from the get go. Why you love to spin circles and then talk down to those who don’t play your game is beyond me. Why you can’t just take a statement for what it is without having to twist it into “your conversation” is beyond me. You just love to argue, spin people’s words around and then talk down to them when they correct you on their original statement, you spin into some argument so you can feel better than thou? I dunno… It’s humorous though. Carry on…jebuz… Stepping out of this. Can’t make a statement on its own without dude having an issue and demeaning my “contribution”… wtf. Lol.
