I would not blame Lanning IF he were to go to Bama BUT I think he is the type of person who wants to create his own legacy and not try to follow in someone else's big shadow trying to live up to that coaches legacy. I really hope I am right that he will stay but time will tell and Go Ducks !!
Duck Territory reported a lot about the situation for their paid members. I won't copy and paste, but the first line was not only a definitive rejected to Lanning being in Alabama on Wednesday, but that he was in Eugene Wednesday afternoon/evening.
I get the attraction to go to Alabama but deep down I would hate the move for a number of reasons including a number of players that have made decisions to play for the Ducks under Lanning. Not sure a coach can recruit quite the way Lanning has and then just leave? Johnathan Smith was quite different. His team and the conference his team was set to change to pretty much total obscurity. Lanning on the other hand has been and still is on solid footing.
I actually don't. Compared to being extremely well compensated while raising your young family in (IMO) the best part of the country where more or less you're already competing & recruiting at Bama's level, whats the big draw? Giant bugs? The humidity? The culture of entitled Cletuses? Dude is already making serious money at a high profile program, wheres the upside? As others have relayed, multiple current Duck players have relayed they've been told by him he's staying. I've also read from the main guy at rivals that he has Nike stock options worth around 30M coming his way upon the completion of his current contract. Is Bama going to pay the 20M buyout and then cover that too? If he does stay and continues to succeed here, we should expect his name will continue to pop up whenever high profile jobs open up in the south. Reporters need clicks. STOMP
I just didn't want to lose our recruiting class. And Dan seems like an above average coach, much better than Cristobone.
I agree with Stomp I don’t know why BAMA would be a more attractive option than O Especially being the guy after the guy Oregon is the better job in my opinion Unless he or his wife are absolutely dying to be in the south for some personal reason
