Good news. If he’d taken the typical coach stepping stone route and left for the SEC, he’d have been forever labeled Dan Lemming in my mind.
Or he flew down to tell Saban no to his face and tell the players down there about to hit the portal where they can go to find some coaching stability?
"If you’re scared your coach is leaving then come play for us. I’m not leaving.” in less than 24 hours, it was all over the news that Lanning was the #1 candidate to replace Saban at Alabama...then Dan said, once again, he's staying at Oregon. I doubt Lanning, his agent, and Alabama had any substantive talks. But Lanning and Oregon got a massive amount of positive spin in this firestorm. For sure potential recruits have noticed all this
it is pretty amazing that over about 30 hours Pete Carroll, Nick Saban, and Bill Belichik all 'retired'
Nice way to put it but there are also a bunch of reasons to go to what many feel is the most prestigious football program in the country. Thinking money is the only thing keeping him here is not making anyone feel better about this? You are talking about the chance to put your name with Bear Bryant and Nick Saban. By the way I agree about raising your family here and of course the bugs. They got some crappy humidity there for sure. Edit- Wrote that before reading the rest of the thread. Glad that is settled and wish him all the best!
The thing is Saban left because he was fed up with college footballs new directions with regards to Portal, NIL. etc. I believe he see's that he will no longer have the huge advantage he once had. When College football was college football.
Dan Lanning confirmed on ESPN's Pat McAfee show that he was watching the Jason Borne movie with his son last night and was not in Alabama.
My sauces are telling me that Dan Lanning is currently on Robert Kraft's private plane flying to the Patriots headquarters.
