probably not, but maybe? he’s not very religious (nor am i), but that’s the Catholics. they beat it out of you. but they often return in the end times.
Ducks up to 6th as expected. If they win out and knock off UW in the PAC championship, I think they’re in.
Using conventional wisdom, I'm surprised Bama didn't leapfrog Oregon this past cycle of rankings as they were really impressive during their bye week STOMP
https://saturdayoutwest.com/pac-12/...rspective-after-definitive-win-at-no-13-utah/ Great read on Dan Lanning. The Ducks are lucky to have him and he seems to love Oregon.
Lanning certainly appears to be growing into beast-mode but, Tosh Lupoi has always been an elite recruiter for front-7 players. He was at Cal, at Washington, at Alabama. The question has been can he coach and can he coordinate. Before this season, the answer had appeared to be not-so-much. But the Duck D looks pretty damn legit this year. The question now is how much of that is Lupoi and how much is Lanning. You also have to give DLine coach Tony Tuioti some major credit too. This is the best Duck DLIne since the Buckner/Armstead days and arguably it's better, or at least much deeper with better edges you can't overlook the Duck GM (Chief of Staff) either: Marshall Malchow. He was director of recruiting for Georgia and Texas A&M when they started to bring in top-5 classes. The job he does is behind the scenes but very important the thing is though that coaches don't become elite unless they win in November. Lanning had a bad November last season, mainly due to Bo's ankle. He needs to do well in the final 5 games of the season this November records after the first 21 games: Bellotti 13-8 Chip 18-3 (two Pac-12 championships in first 2 seasons) Helfrich 18-3 (one Pac-12 championship in first 2 seasons) Cristobal 16-5 (one Pac-12 championship in first 2 seasons) Lanning 17-4 of the 5 coaches, Chip inherited the most complete and talented team. And Chip came into the job when the Pac-12 conference was quite weak. Helfirch inherited great offensive talent, but the defensive talent was fading. Mario had to do the most building but he did inherit Justin Herbert, Dillon Mitchell, Troy Dye, Justin Hollins, Jevon Holland, and Jalen Jelks. Lanning went out and landed Bo Nix. The long term test will be who is QB next season when Ohio State comes to Eugene
It will be a guy who gets the ball and then either throws it, hands it off, or runs with it. See Bo Nix for example.
I think programs will have a hard time developing QB's when NIL and the transfer portal seems to be a better path for immediate competitiveness and contending for a conference championship and a playoff berth look at the Pac-12 right now: 5Washington Huskies - transfer 24USC Trojans - transfer 6Oregon Ducks - transfer 16Oregon State Beavers - transfer 18Utah Utes - HS recruit(s) Arizona Wildcats - transfer 20UCLA Bruins HS recruits but 5 star was benched Colorado Buffaloes - transfer California Golden Bears - HS recruit(s) Arizona State Sun Devils - HS recruit(s) Washington State Cougars - transfer Stanford Cardinal - HS recruit(s) 5 of the top 7 teams have transfer QB's. And of the 5 teams with just 1 win, 3 of 5 have HS recruits at QB
That's why having the Beavers in a lower league than us is really going to help. They develop a QB, we get them to transfer by offering big NIL $$$$.
