As it turns out, Alabama beats Georgia. If FSU wins, it's not certain a one-loss Ducks team gets in ahead of one-loss Alabama and an unbeaten FSU.
Come on back and visit this conversation when Oregon actually wins something. I’ll be here waiting. When it happens I’ll rescind all my statements.
I think it'll be Georgia, Alabama, Michigan (assuming they win), then it'll come down to either Washington or Florida State (assuming they win).
Michigan-Washington-Alabama-Texas if FSU beats Louisville I think the CFP committee will omit them because of the QB situation. They are allowed to account for injured players in their deliberations
I guess on the bright side we have saved ourselves from potentially being furious if we were left out for Bama or Georgia.
Do I support the PAC 12 and become a Louisville fan so to support the Huskies? Might be a tough decision?
I don't think that the Ducks' brand gets damaged by losing to the Huskies. It doesn't improve, probably, but it's pretty obvious that the two programs are just about equal. The Huskies just had a couple more breaks go their way each of this season's games. I guess my question is why do you raise that issue when the Ducks won an extra game over last year's squad and makes the conference final when they missed out last year? Seems like at least a marginal improvement. I think in reality, this year's squad was considerably better than last year's.
Okay. Guess I’m just jumping in mid-conversation, which is never a good thing. I just didn’t see how the program is worse off after winning more than last year. I do agree that the “brand” doesn’t enter big-boy territory until the Ducks win on the big stage.
WTF do you mean by "win something"? in the last 15 years they've won 10 or more games 11 times; more than 10 games 7 times. They've won 8 bowl games including 3 Rose Bowls. Their record in that stretch is 156-60, a .722 winning percentage. Since 2009, they have won 6 Pac-12 championships which is twice as many as any other team (Oregon-6; Stanford-3; Washington-3; USC-1). They've won a Heisman. They are 31-9 over the last 3 seasons and 47-14 over the last 5 seasons. They have posted that kind of record despite being on their 5th coach since Mike Bellotti retired. that sure looks like 'winning something' to me wait a minute...are you a beaver fan? that would explain a lot
KJ, Lets say Oregon doesnt make the playoffs the next three years, but still end with 10 plus wins each year and continues to improv thier recruiting classes. Would you then say winning isn't everything and the brand seems to have a bit more impact than you originally had thought? I agree winning is the bulk of it, but its not everything. To me the brand has some merit, especially with Nike in the back yard.
People will say a lot of different things. Some people are saying Georgia was overrated. Some are saying Bama and Georgia are the best two teams. Some are saying there should be no SEC teams in the playoff. I don't see how Bama/Georgia both get in unless Louisville and Iowa win this evening.
If Oregon wins 10+ games the next three years, they'll be making the playoffs. I think we'll be seeing multiple 10-2 SEC/B1G teams in the expanded playoff. Oregon would be in the 12 team playoff this year if it were a thing.
