It'll probably happen eventually, but Altman hasn't lost a first round NCAA, NIT, CBI, or P12 game during his entire tenure at Oregon. That's wild.
Not shockingly, there are a bunch of people on the Oregon message boards that wanted Altman fired all season.
His recruiting really took a hit when he lost that guy to DePaul. Also, the Ducks have kind of struggled to recruit “go to” scorers over the years
Altman (and staff) used to be one of the few programs that knew how to get and use transfers. Then NIL and the transfer portal became a thing and I'm not sure they've found their groove. I'll be very surprised if Stubblefield (DePaul) isn't back on Oregon's bench next year. He was running around on the floor/locker room celebrating with the team the last two nights.
I don't know the details of Oregon's NIL program(s), but I have got the impression it's been heavily slanted toward football. I suspect that with limited NIL budgets, the one-&-done rule for basketball makes it seem like a poor investment I hope that the aperture of some trickle-down NIL economics will be directing more money to the basketball programs in the future but more than that, I want to know what the Fk is going on with the Track & Field programs. Oregon used to dominate the Pac-12 and win national championships; they have the premier dedicated T&F facility in the nation. But their T&F teams hardly even register notice nationally any more. I can't believe Phil Knight is OK with this.
Robert Johnson certainly brought championships to Eugene, but he seemed to have lost his touch the last 2-3 seasons he was in charge, especially for the women and sprints. I'm still now sure why the UofO essentially fired him though losing the husband/wife team Powell's to the UofW certainly hurt
I've heard the same thing about Oregon's NIL. It's very heavy football and Ducks Rising also supports baseball, but not basketball. No clue what the deal with the track program is. I can't imagine Phil would be thrilled about it either.
Dante, has definitely been snakebite by injuries in his career but to say N’Faly doesn’t have a high tolerance for pain? 7 foot 250 lb players struggle coming back from lower leg injuries. Dude was a warrior this tournament. To take that nasty fall and have to go for X-Rays and come back and will his team to win on stellar efforts screams someone with a high pain tolerance willing to sacrifice everything for his team! Go Ducks! They can make some noise and reach the Sweet 16 with their bracket!
No. 11 seed Oregon (23-11) will play No. 6 seed South Carolina (26-7) at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on Thursday, March 21 at approximately 1 p.m. PT with a live broadcast on TNT.
I feel the same way about male sports broadcasting. Men make the perfect announcers for men's sports. Unfortunately there was some kind of vagina mandate and now women are increasingly being heard with high pitched voices coming through the tv.
