Damn right, and doubly so when you consider the prison and enforcement savings.

You might be right. There's definitely going to be some boom and bust till the dust settles. Kind of like sports card shop in the 90's. exciting times for geezers like us!

Oregon is actually playing this really smart. The people who set up the law, knew it was going national eventually, and knew Oregon is a key grow state anyway, so they set us up to be players in the future national marijuana economy. There expect us to be big product and technology exporters to the rest of the country. The beautiful part is the taxation structure, they expect weed to get cheaper in Oregon eventually average about $150 an ounce, which will undermine the black market over time. The only thing that can really fuck this up is if the cities and counties start imposing huge taxes on it, which they are trying to do of course.

'Queen CBD' is a new strain to look out for.

    Average: 0.x% THC -- 20% CBD

The Blue Shark was 11+% CBD and works well. But will certainly keep an eye out for Queen. I wish I could get the higher CBD stuff in edible form but that's a ways off here and I refuse to pay WA prices. But at least it's available in buds.

I just found out my step-dad now smokes and that he does it to help him stay away from alcohol. LOL fucking wow; and my mom's ok with it; and my sister's into it.

Trips me the fuck out.... It's been illegal for so many years I just have a hard time realizing everyone's parents can now go light up outside of the closet.

The alcohol industry has been one of the biggest opponents to legalization. I smoke a lot and rarely drink, when I stop smoking for whatever reason my drinking picks up considerably. Actually I consider marijuana the "anti" drug, I know many people that use it to help get over opioide addictions and I would have never been able to get over cigarettes without substituting joints!

My dad tried it awhile ago for pain and curiosity, he hates smoking so I gave him some cookies. I specifically told him to only eat a quarter of the cookie at a time and go from there after an hour or more, when he is comfortable with it. I made a really big deal out of it and he worked in medicine so I figured he understood the idea of dosage. Anyway, what does he do? He eats a whole fucking cookie, freaks out and throws them all away in a paranoid stuppor. lol. Poor dad but I laughed so hard when my mom told me all about it.

Yes, a lot of us old farts have been smoking for years and hiding it. My kids found out I did quite a few years ago. No sure if it traumatized them or not, but I know it surprised the heck out of them. Since legalization, I have been continually dumbfounded by people I've known for years who now admit they use. I was just offered high CBD cookies by my cousin's spouse, a retired cop who made them from scratch, including the marijuana butter he used in the recipe. Totally blew my doors off (both the revelation and the cookies). And that is just one example. There is so much to like about legalization, but what I like best is that we can now be open and honest about it. At the dispensary yesterday I still found myself lowering my voice and looking over my shoulder while having a discussion with the bud tender. Old habits die hard but it sure feels good to bury them.

No, it was more like "Don't tell your mom you found out I smoke and I won't tell her that you do. Now how 'bout giving me a nug to seal the deal?"

My sons are now in their mid thirties, but I never had to confiscate. They were always remarkably generous. And had more consistent sources.....

What I find amusing is how clueless some of the younger generation think we old timers are when it comes to weed. Yesterday's bud tender felt she had to school me on CBD versus THC, indica versus sativa, etc, etc., like I was a gray haired child that had stumbled onto a new planet. She meant well and was just doing her job, which I appreciated. But I felt a tad patronized. I guess because geezers like me are from the days of low grade seed and stem laden Mexi-weed, they think we have no idea how the landscape (insert HCP joke here) has changed. But it's all good and I like that these kids talk the talk. It enhances the buying experience in the long run.

They think we are clueless on everything. A few years ago my step son came into the house and said, "have you guys heard of the band Cyress Hill, they are pretty good." I was like "son, I was kicked out of a Cypress Hill concert before you were born." lol. Anytime I give the youngest one any advice on anything he looks at me like Im trying to trick him into eating his vegetables.

I went into one and got some odd looks from the youngsters (employees and customers, heh). They're just so shocked corporate old people are walking in the door. I had a very nice bud tender lady start to caution me about the stronger strains that exist now and the options they had. I was like, not to worry kiddo, I'll take the Jack Herer - shouldn't be a problem. :pimp:

Dont ever feel bad about being old and asking question or feeling out of place guys. I put together a business plan for a rec shop to investigate the potential, and one of my biggest findings was that you guys are the target customers. You know, baby boomers who are open to the idea but either dont smoke much or its been a long time, because of laws and lack hook ups or the stigma that has been associated with it. The younger crowed probably already has cheaper hook ups and is buying in quantity. The expectation for these business is for you to buy a gram every week or two instead or in addition to some vino.
