Just for the record, I've owned guns for 60 years. I now own two.

Just thought you'd like to know.

I bought my first one 66 years ago.
I now have one for deer, another for Elk, Grouse, and Ducks.
Then I have one for little guys, big guys, a lot of guys.
I don't hunt for food anymore. Never did do it for sport.

Mine are a hunting rifle and a shotgun. The shotgun is effective for game birds and trespassers (Get off my lawn). The hunting rifle is good for big game and the neighbors' barking dogs.

Well, you would need it for that. Me? I haven't hunted since my disability made it difficult to walk.

Elk is the best. I've had other hunters tell me that Moose is even better than elk which I find hard to believe. Someone else said Moose was a little greasy.

It may depend on what they feed on. I like moose the best. Whitetail deer next, and then elk.

I have tons of whitetail deer and elk around my house. We used to have a lot of moose, but the wolves cleaned them out. Moose appears to also be the wolves favorite.

    I would love to come!

I did take one Elk a year when I lived on my ranch near the Wallowa River. It is easier to have the butcher just do me a beef but geez!
Elk is better! Yearling Moose might be the all time winner.

Bring some fresh salt water seafood when you come.

I have harvested two moose. One season, my hunting partner and I made a pre-hunt deal. We would split the meat 50-50.

I took the equivalent of a spike moose. He took a very large moose. It had a 52" spread.

I got half of his monster, and he got half of my spike.

Months after the hunt we both agreed that we could not tell the difference in the taste and quality of the meat. His monster was tender. Right up there in chateaubrian range.

I've eaten an awful lot of Venison over the last nearly 60 years. I can honestly say I've never acquired a taste for it. I've eaten elk once and instantly loved it. Never had moose, never had antelope.

Have you tried whitetail deer meat?
I'm not a big fan of blacktail & muledeer meat. Not sure why whitetail is so much better.

No idea. We got our venison when I was young from a hunter who bragged that he could survive in the wilderness with nothing more than a hunting knife. Later I had venison provided by a couple college buddies that were prolific hunters from Coos Bay. All I knew was that it was venison and it all tasted the same. These guys were well versed on how to dress their meat and gut their animal removing the scent glands at the site of the kill.

Coos Bay would probably be blacktail deer.

I'll be darned! I did not know Whitetail was better. Had a quite a few of them along with the many Mule deer at the ranch but never tried any.
But then I have to wonder, winning the contest over the Mule or Blacktail, does necessarily make it wonderful. It seems I would have heard this great news.

20 years ago, there were very few whitetails in Oregon, most all in the NE corner. Heard they are spreading out more now.

I used to work out with a kid who said he was from way up in N.E. Oregon. His dad, a famous pro football player retired there.
