Thank you Denny. I've been freaking the fuck out.... I could barely sleep last night... Ever just feel completely helpless? I'm at work now just trying to focus. I have family that live in Cascade Locks, North Bonneville, Stevenson, Carson, and Home Valley. The fire is from CL to the Falls on the OR side. It's 7.5 Miles West of NB on the WA side.
Is this a casino joke? Anyway, hope everyone is ok with these. We had fires and were evacuated 2 or 3 years ago - it is no fun at all.
Not at all. The University of Oregon Museum of Natural History has a fascinating exhibit on it. There is a great story displayed there of a native who came from one of the coastal tribes with stuff to trade for a horse, didn't have enough to get one so he joined in one of the dice like games, lost... lost... lost... in the end he left naked but he left on a horse.
BTW, this museum is a little known treasure in the state of Oregon. Even if you hate U of O this museum is a must see if you care about the history of the state you live in.
Another little known place is the oregon mental health museum in salem. Such a great exhibit. And only like $7.
What neighborhood did you grow up in?? Aloha? While stupid decisions by young people have been around since Cain whacked Abel, I don't remember the quantity and quality criminally stupid behavior by teens reaching such epic proportions when I was a teenager. It was there of course, just not to such proportions that I ever saw. My recollections are similar to @honkicracker's. We knew if we pulled stupid crap like that our parents, our friend's parents, our teachers, our priests (and nuns) and even out grandparents would kick the living shit out of us. Unfortunately, it's a different day and stupid little asswipes like that are coddled and protected by their parents (if they have any around) in particular and by society in general. We also had more important stuff to pursue, like (as Honki said) chasing women, obtaining weed and alcohol, and holding jobs when we weren't in school. And any girl that was impressed by the guys who engaged in vandalism were (in general) slutty, low life tramps we had absolutely no interest in, no matter how willing they were to give their "charms" away. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we respected what did not belong to us and steered clear. But then, all these years later it's a very different world.....
Beaverton/Bull Mountain area yo. We were just bored out of our fucking minds out there, so we did shit like that. Blew shit up, fucked with the police, etc. It wasn't to impress girls, it was just fun.

I get that to a point. I went to LaSalle when it was brand new and surrounded by farms in what was then the very outer limits of Milwaukie (some might say Milwaukie IS the outer limits). No I-205, Clackamas Town Center, Aquatic Center, etc, etc, etc). Just the smell of cow shit. So we'd head out (what was then) sleepy Sunnyside Road or up the Clackamas River to camp, play cards, make out or party. We did more than our fair share of stupid shit but we respected the rights and property of others and avoided cops at all costs. Seems like today's moron goes out of his/her way to create as much damage and draw as much attention to themselves as they possibly can. They obviously didn't get enough hugs growing up.....
These kids did a very stupid thing. At the same time I feel some empathy for them as they will have this on their conscience for the rest of their life. Still a completely stupid thing to do. Also they and their parents may have some significant monetary exposure. The state sues people that causes fires to recover their fire suppression expenses.
Wait, you went to LaSalle?!? Oh it's on now! I went to Gladstone. WE HATED YOU GUYS! So true story, when I was a freshman some seniors went to LaSalle's football field and drove on it, cutting cookies on the grass and then hit the big wooden sign that said Welcome to LaSalle High School. Broken it in about 6 or 7 pieces. Naturally they got caught so they had to reseed the field and fix the sign. School year goes on and the sign still isn't fixed. They're told to fix the sign or they wouldn't graduate. So they they paid the first freshman they found in shop class $20 to fix it. That freshman was me. So I fixed the sign, did a really good job. Could never tell it was broken. This was a really large sign. Seniors were happy, our principal was happy, LaSalle's principal was happy. Sign got put back up over the entrance to the field. Except SlyFreshmanDog used plain old white Elmer's glue, hahahahaha. Sign lasted the summer but the fall rain quickly caused it to come apart and fall down. By then the guys who broke the sign were out of high school and nothing could be done.
I personally haven't spent a penny on fireworks in 12 or 13 years. Last time I was 15 and lit them off in my driveway for my baby cousin cause she enjoyed the lights/sounds. I then had her grab the hose and water the fireworks down, as well as the area we set them off in. As that's what I was taught when I was her age. Maybe when I have kids I'll get fireworks. Frankly though I hate fireworks as they scare my animals. And animals I care for on a daily biases. But that wasn't the point. I don't nor did I know anyone who bought/built fireworks and sets them off irresponsibly. I remember when I was 14 my grandfather told me in front of all my friends. He beat my ass if he found out I destroyed shit with or without fireworks. I bet you or any other parent/guardian on this forum would tell your kid(s) something similar to my grandfather if you felt it was necessary. Now kids will be kids, but I get the feeling from you that you'd make sure your son understands there is a line. If he crosses said line, he has to be more worried about repercussions from you. Rather than anyone else. I think the most destruction I did was fork a girls yard I liked. I have no sympathy for this kid or group of kids. I believe they and their parents should have repercussions coming at them for this fire. If indeed it's determined it was started with a firework.
@UncleCliffy'sDaddy pretty sure you're 20+ years old than I. But I'd be quick to point out not all parents in this day and age are deadbeats who don't give a damn. There are a couple on this forum and many I know personally, who would absolutely murder their children if they found out their kids destroyed someones mailbox or stole a pack of gum. @dviss1 is one of those parents. Will also point out there have been parents who didn't care, even when you were growing up. My biological father could attest to that. I know all mexicans look alike but I didn't know I knew you growing up? I had a pretty big circle of people though, from Hillboro to Tillamook. Well I also ended up forking her in high school, so... Call it romance?
All of this is true. However, they are kids and kids will be kids. They will get theirs. Buuuuuuut... I'm SURE there's something you did that you regret when you were young.
Have to admit that I did a lot of stuff that was arguably worse than this when i was younger, although luckily the consequences for other people were never as bad as this. But when I turned 60 I started acting a bit more mature. barfo
