Damn, good for ORL. Landing a first rounder for a guy who will walk this summer is solid. TOR going all in. Should make the EC playoffs a bit more interesting.

Also glad we did not pay them that.

arguably, that's a better trade than we could've offered.

But when you step back to this summer, ORL just traded Oladipo, Sabonis jr, and Ilyasova for Terrance Ross and the 20th pick this draft.

    Wow.

That is a solid gamble for Toronto. Isn't Serge Spanish? Toronto has a European feel to it, unless he hates the cold. Having his Bird rights, I think they have a good chance of re-signing him. Too bad, I think we could have offered more if we thought we could re-sign him.

There was a point at which I believe Ibaka said the team he was most interested in playing for was Toronto, mainly because of Ujiri. He has been on our radar for a while. Ujiri is extremely high on him.

Kyle Lowry will opt-out this summer making him a free agent. Re-signing Lowry and Ibaka would be an enormous feat for Weltman and will require some creative use of the cap. Likely requires Pat Patterson to walk which is a shame. In my estimation Patterson is one of the best role players in the league. Toronto is sacrificing a lot of depth in the deal which is one of the main reasons they've been winning for the last few seasons. Serious gamble.

Woj reported the pick going to Orlando as the "lower" of Toronto/LA Clippers 2017 which is a bit unclear. Toronto definitely doesn't need two first round picks this year. They don't really even need one. Delon Wright, Bruno Caboclo, and Jakob Poeltl hardly play as it is.

Like Patterson, Ross is quietly having a good season. If he ever dedicates himself to it he can become a good-to-great starting shooting guard. He was never going to get ahead of DeRozan so this is probably a good move for his career. There were rumblings the last few years that Ross was last to arrive/first to leave for practice and spent more time playing PS4 than honing his craft. Toronto sports fans are demanding and he didn't ever seem to get in their good graces.

Right now Toronto was reeling with loses. They was right Cleveland and there down in the 4th with Atlanta a game out from them.

Makes some sense for Toronto, since they're trying to contend. They should be taking some chances.

I'm a little concerned about Ibaka's defense, which seems to me to be declining, but this was probably the best chance Toronto had at an impact player and they certainly needed some kind of shake-up.

Weltman apparently leveraged a Taj Gibson trade to force Orlando to decide right away.

Playing 22 minutes and averaging 6/4 with really not good shooting, rookie or not that's just not impressive.

He'll be a solid bench player at the worst. He's already 100x better than Vonleh.

Based on what, his incredible PER of 6.6?

Jeezus, why is the grass always so much greener everywhere else? If we had a starter putting up his numbers, everyone around here would be bitching about him being a bust and we never should have traded Ibaka for such a talentless scrub.

I suspect the Sabonis name is carrying some cache around these parts. If he had another name, I don't think he'd be nearly as esteemed.

Well, perhaps you're right. That may be his best role. He does carry great basketball genes. Unfortunately, it seems to skip a generation.
