No matter how many times you say it , it does not make it true. Did Oden not renogiate his contract so he is still a restricted free agent at the end of the year? What am I missing here. Why would he take less money this year just to leave at the end of the year? Did that not really happen? Or was it just a rumor?
Minny needs a center in the worst way. Asik would fit in great next to Love. They need someone like that -- defensive oriented.
It might be easier to just pretend Oden doesn't exist when talking about the future for the Blazers. Just too many question marks associated with that kid right now. Later in the season, we'll probably know more one way or the other, and can start counting on him. But (as much as he seems to be trying to instigate) I think Brock is fine to assume nothing from him.
What you are missing is that he's a completely unrestricted free agent come July. Edit: and yes he took a paycut to his QO, because he's incapable of passing a physical right now ... which means that without the Blazers renegotiating down from the 8.8 million they would have had to pay him (down to a more favorable number) he couldn't have gotten a contract before the season started.
OK so you are saying the rumor was false. It was reported at one time that we would retain the same status as this year. When did they come out and clarify it?
when was that a "rumor?" That sounds more like misconception to me. His options going into this season were one of three outcomes. 1. Sign an offer sheet with another team where the Blazers either match or don't. 2. accept the QO and become a UFA at season's end, or 3. Accept a different contract from the Blazers with no offer sheets forthcoming and the QO rescinded. In his case he took option 3 and negotiated a one year contract for a figure less than his QO.
Possibly a misconception because it never made sense to me, but I had heard (Either radio or internet) that because the current injury had not yet healed that Greg could negotiate a one year deal and push back the status of his contract one year keeping him a restricted free agent at the end of the year. Although I had doubts, someone on the Blazer network said it. Thus I classified it as a rumor.
Stein: http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/34685/what-will-magic-want-for-dwight Outside of Gerald and Camby, what else can we offer for Dwight and still remain competitive ourselves? Gotta keep LA and Nic, I think. With a core of LA/Nic alongside him in the front court, would Dwight be willing to sign an extension with us?
I'd be open to building a package around LA too. Maybe LA/Camby for Howard/Anderson. We'd still have a sick lineup.
Atlanta offered the horrendous contract of Joe Johnson and Josh Smith for Howard. I would have hung up on them immediately.
I like him but Spo needs to provide better spacing. If Cole is going to play with the starters then we need Jones/Battier in the lineup, not Haslem. I guess if Cole ever develops a three point shot then Chalmers is done. Until then I wouldn't mind seeing Cole coming off the bench. Like a mini Jamal Crawford or something.
I don't see the comparison. Boobie was a one dimensional shooter. Cole is a jack of all trades type with inconsistent shooting.
Whomever said that has no idea what they are talking about (my vote for "most likely to have uttered this" would be for Jay Allen?)
