This is obviously not a family/work site so I don't understand what the problem is?

Some of us like to have a computer downstairs where the kids might be running. It seems like a bummer that going on a basketball site - which should be kid friendly - is hard to do until after they go to sleep.

But, thankfully, the Adblock extension suggested here works - so, quite frankly, I no longer care.

FWIW, it is our intent to provide the best service and experience for you guys while at the same time trying to keep the site safe for work.

To this end, we've asked people to mark stuff unsafe for work as such so people know better than to click on the .1% of our threads that have pictures big enough to see from across the room.

The avatars are something of an issue, we agree. It's being discussed among the staff right now and we'll figure out a fair and reasoned policy.

I'm not so sure that surfing a sports site (or any entertainment type site) is truly safe for work. I'd be kinda pissed if my employees were wasting hours a day not helping the company go. So maybe it's not such a big deal about the language - someone has to be right up to your screen to read the print, no? Speak up if you feel I'm wrong about this.

    Stay tuned.

For the record - I did not demand anything before - I just offered my opinion that it makes the site less friendly for us with little kids running around.

But, the FF extension solves whatever problem I have had as far as I am concerned.

I don't know how hard it would be for you guys to build in a selective avy/sig turnoff switch, but if possible, that would rock.

Personally, I have a job where I often have hours at a time with nothing to do but surf the internet, and so I have to turn off all. It sure would be nice to see the avy's, but I have asked people in the past to no avail. I really don't care for myself, just because it is not appropriate at work.

By the way, what are the rules? I know I can say FUCK on this site, can I post nudity? What does this site allow/not allow?

I completely understand what you are saying, but I was just pointing out this is obviously not a site that you would want to visit in that situation. They allow use of words that wouldn't be allowed on a family site as well as some pics that wouldn't be allowed on a family site. This is a adultish site so it's not one you'd want to visit if you have kids around or if that's a problem at work. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying that's the way it should be, that's just the way it is.

Little kids are not able to read - and quite franky, even my 7 years old will not stick her nose in there to read what I am reading - but the pictures are very visible from across the room.

Nothing is perfect - but the adult-theme avatars are not really required for the purpose of the site, imho. As I said - I found a fantastic solution with AdBlock - just pointing the obvious.

Nothing could tank this site quicker than PC avatar rules. It should be obvious to anyone with children that this is not a site designed for them. Very few of the posts here are meant for children to read, and pretty much nobody here wants their input.

Blazers.com has that site if your kiddies need one.

As for your boss seeing your screen, I hope he does.

Anyone using this site at work SHOULD get in trouble. They'd be fired if they were my employee. I am puzzled how some posters can brag about doing it without feeling like a thief and a parasite. They're a huge drag on the economy and if they're dishonest at work they're probably dishonest the rest of the time.

Get your own PC, your own internet provider, and use it on your own time.

This site is meant for recreation, and it's huge advantage and attraction over BBF where many of us came from is the lack of censorship. My avatar is quite tame by choice, but were I told it had to be work/kid safe I'd probably find a better board to frequent.
