You know, you might be onto something there. I wonder if they could expand it UP and down and make it serviceable for another sport?

Probably not likely, because it would have to be expanded outward first. I can't imagine it'd be too hard to expand the walls outwards, and incorporate the current structure somehow. It'd have to be cheaper than starting over/from scratch one would think. The walls of that thing are just windows basically.

I loved this idea for the MC -- expand movie/tv production in the city:

Maybe incorporate some of it into the baseball field? Like the facade creating a quasi green monster type wall or something

Actually, I bet if they tried hard enough they could use most of the footprint of the MC for a baseball stadium, as long as they reinforced the areas that lost the wall.

Get rid of the root, use 3 of the 4 walls (maybe instead of a box, make it more baseball field shaped), and have it opening towards the NE corner.

Best idea yet! And it'd create some real jobs, rather than just seasonal concessions sellers.

I think that spills onto Paul Allen's land.

I'd rather have an NHL team. I'm not a fan of MLB or NHL, but I would probably become a fan of the NHL if Portland got a team. I have zero interest in the MLB, with or without a Portland team. It's a boring sport IMO.

I'd love for this to happen. I just cant in good conscience root for any team in Seattle, so the Mariners are out... that just leaves me to hate the Red Sox

This is true, plus who wants to sit through a game when it does drizzle. I say go all out and add the retractable roof. It would make for a better fan experience all season long. I understand that other cities get away without one, but I think it may be worth the extra investment.

Why settle for one. MLB and the NHL would do just fine here in conjunction with each other and the NBA. They all don't really have too much overlap in fan base. Just look at this thread. Basketball fans are the last type of fans I would expect to like Baseball. But there are plenty of baseball and hockey fans in Portland, and I bet most don't care for the blazers or basketball.

Contrary to popular belief around here, we do have a very large city/metro area that can support 3-4 big teams.

I think Paul is still trying to acquire an NHL team. If anything he is reason why there is discussion about a potential team here.

I just got done listening to Jaynes on talking ball on how there isn't a billionaire in the mix and because there isn't one and there won't ever be one, it won't ever happen. Chris McGowan who I believe is working on Hockey I think is just the guy to sell Paul on the idea. Of course it's got to make financial sense for Paul. But I think Chris maybe just the guy to sell Paul on the idea. Unless Paul is waiting for the Mariners and Safeco Field to become available which is a possibility.

No need to settle for just one, but MLB only overlaps the NBA regular season by a few weeks. Hockey is pretty much the exact time. But the biggest appeal to me for baseball is that it coincides with the time of year that the city of Portland is at its finest. June-September. Kicking back on a warm summer day at the ball park is pretty damn nice. For those who think it is boring.....I say you get hooked real fast. Going to the game is a lot different than watching on TV. As long as you are not freezing your ass off.

If Nintendo keeps losing money you can bet they'll put the team up for sale.
