Are you saying that Sterling has been involved in murder/graft/bribing/spousal abuse?

Maybe there won't be a case tied in court for years.

Donald Sterling's almost-lifetime achievement award from the NAACP just forced the president of the group's L.A. chapter to quit -- and TMZ Sports has learned he basically got outta Dodge before he was kicked out.

Leon Jenkins quit his post Thursday evening ... 6 days after we first posted Sterling's racist rant -- putting Jenkins in the embarrassing position of explaining -- to the public and NAACP members -- why the group was weeks away from handing Sterling a SECOND lifetime achievement award.

Jenkins said he was quitting in order to separate the org from the "negative exposure I have caused the NAACP." But one NAACP source put it differently, telling us ... "He knew we were coming for him and we were gonna get him out of there, so he resigned."

Truth is ... even if we hadn't posted the recording -- Sterling was a ridiculous choice. He'd already faced THREE messy and public discrimination lawsuits -- two from the Feds, and one from ex-Clippers GM Elgin Baylor.

He's been diagnosed with cancer. Don't think he won't use it to make his case.

Donald Sterling is battling cancer, sources tell the New York Post.

“People have been predicting his imminent demise. I’m sure he has the best . . . drugs money can buy,” said the source, who works closely with pro sports teams. “He can do anything to keep himself alive.”

The source said that some of the medication the 80-year-old Sterling is taking is responsible for the puffy appearance in his face.

Another source said Sterling is suffering from prostate cancer.

Sterling was banned for life by the NBA this week.

“He’s calling everyone, saying: ‘Tell me I’m not a racist,’ ” a source said.

Sterling was in negotiations to be interviewed by Barbara Walters on ABC.

Sterling has been holed up in the penthouse atop a nearly-empty office building he owns in Beverly Hills since the tape surfaced.

So I guess his suspension won't be as long as initially thought...

This whole thing is just beginning. We will see this summer. Correct me if I'm wrong but as of now Sterling does still own the team doesn't he? I mean it hasn't been sold or anything and don't they still need to votes from the other owners?

He's the thing that trips me out. Okay since Sterling is still owner of the team, what happens on draft day? During free agency? I know he can't make decisions, but the slippery slope is, what if the decision to keep a player or draft another is a bad decision? I know if you don't have voting interest in a company, they are still liable for losing you money.

My post from 4/29 in the "It's so annoying" thread:

"And in the end I think Sterling either goes into rehab or starts treatment for an previously unknown condition that affects memory or behavior (i.e. dementia, bipolar disorder, etc.). His family will take over conservatorship (or whatever you call it) and everything will go back to normal with the Clippers after they pay a huge fine. This is nothing new for Sterling or his organization."

    Boom! There it is. :devilwink:

Not to fear. I vote we volunteer Steve Patterson to temporarily run the team with John Nash as his GM.

You completely missed what I'm saying. A lifetime ban for a healthy 80+ year old is a longer ban than that of an 80+ year old who has been battling prostate cancer for some time.
