He'll make up for that in sales and ads. And aside from a shorter contract, he won't be losing "several" million, I think.
My recollection is that a team that has his Bird rights can offer higher annual raises. Thus, the "max contract" that his own team can offer would be larger in both years and average annual value. I forget how much the difference would be. Whether he'd make it up in sales and ads, I have no idea.
True, but he's a 22 year-old PG putting up great numbers in terms of points and assists playing in place of the best PG in the NBA, Chris Paul. I doubt his TOs will increase as he develops as an NBA PG. He has too much potential to sit on the bench when Paul gets healthy. He doesn't really have a choice, but my earlier suggestion of Rudy/lotto-protected 1st rounder isn't a bad return for a back-up PG, is it?
Rudy will be up for an extension soon, they are looking to shed salary. If teams want Collison, they are going to have to take back a bad contract. Pryz's expiring deal + Bayless + Picks for Collison + Posey's contract might work.
I was wondering when this thread was going to happen. Chris Paul is looking mighty tradeable right now and the Hornets could get a lot of good pieces to put around Collison in the process.
thats true. Over the last 10 games he's averaging 5 per game. He's also averaging 21 points on 49%, 1 three, 3.6 FTA, 9 Assts, 4.4 Rbs, 2 Stls. They've gone 4-6 which isn't great of course but it's much better then I thought they'd do sans CP http://www.dougstats.com/09-10/NOrleansHornetsLF.html that he's been doing this on my fantasy hoops lineup is especially endearing STOMP
The funny thing is, Collison isn't the only rookie guard on that team stepping up.... Amazing what happens when you give young players playing time instead of jerking them around isn't it? That is exactly why Byron Scott was fired.
LOL Anyhow, was searching for a post I authored that showed collison's rookie year compared to other elite PGs and found this gem.
Very close in my opinion! Pryz + Rudy + Bayless to New Orleans for Collison + Okafor I think this works well for both teams. Portland is left to deal Miller (alone, and/or with Camby by the trade deadline).
I think CP3 would be pissed if this trade went down. Right after MGNT tells him they want to win and improve the team they trade two of their best players. What would be funny is if this happened and CP3 publicly came out and said he want to be traded ASAP and then the Hornets trade him to a East Coast team like NJ. We would be screwing ourselves. Although I wouldn't mind the trade myself.
That's why you make absolutely certain he's off the table. Ask them what it would take to get CP3. If they say blah blah blah + blah blah blah you know it's negotiable. If they say he's completely untouchable, then Collison and Okafor is a great consolation prize to say the least.
