This is a really good point. @KBerg_CBS: By giving $20m to Darko Milicic, David Kahn may have just singlehandedly lost the CBA negotiation for the owners. #NBA
His numbers didn't really change drastically during his contract year. He just got more of an opportunity to show his game.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/milicda01.html So that's Darko "showing his game?" Gah.
Like I said, 8 and 6 with good D off the bench isn't bad. Only thing to be concerned about would be his attitude. You guys are free to disagree.
But that's just it, it's ALWAYS been about Darko's space cadet attitude. He's certainly not worth 4 years 5 million per year.
Not only will they disagree, they will mock your position. Do you spoon with David Khan? Anyhow, it's a meh. Darko isn't terrible.
Minny fans who have actually watched him play aren't up in arms: http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1026856
Similar on-court production to Martell Webster, except Darko actually has size. Yet Webster was a good signing at $4 million/per? Seems like a decent gamble to me by Khan.
No, you're not the only one. I don't think it's a tremendous contract for Minnesota, but I also don't think it's batshit crazy. As a starter, Darko averaged about 10 points, 6 rebounds and a block per game. Is he great? No. Should he have been the #2 pick in the draft ahead of Carmello, Wade, Bosh, etc? No. But 5 million for an average backup center isn't the world's worst contract. Example: Joel Przybilla last season - 4 points, 8 rebounds, $7 million.
This is good information since, as this board has shown, fans never, ever overrate the players on their teams.
5 milion a year is a pretty fair deal for Darko. If you watched him play the last two years he has improved quite a bit.
Can't wait to see what you say about Harris and Brook Lopez based on your well thought out formula. Nobody is raving about him, just that a serviceable center in the NBA gets 5 million a year for the last several years now.
Except that Varejao can play. He is an excellent defender. Most teams need a guy like that. Short of having a dream two-way like Duncan, the next best thing is to have a big like Varejao that can defend the paint, set screens, rebound, anchor the team defense. Dude has a big impact and is worth the money.
