The thing I think is funny is there was a report on NBATV a few weeks back that the Timberwolves Brass met and after their meeting, their conclusion was that Darko was the only player on the team who was actual starter quality. I don't know if that was just a crazy rumor, but the more I see of their moves, the more I think it was a legit report.

K-Love is not starter material? if a 20.7 PER PF with over 20% TRB% and over 12% AST% for a PF is not starter material, even if he is not the world greatest defender - they have some real issues with the BBIQ of the front office...

Kahn is almost making Kevin McHale look like a genius.

You know, I am not 100% sure that the Darko signing is completely nuts, but the idea that he is the only starter material on that team, is...

    It's true.

I am not 100% sure either.

    I am 99.999999999999999% sure though.

I think there is a difference between T'Wolves starter material and actual starter material.

Much like the difference between David Kahn GM and Actual NBA Quality GM.

This would make more sense if they did not owe the Clippers an unprotected 1st in 2012 if they do not give up their 2011 pick. Unless they get a star somehow next year, they would have been better off using their capspace overpaying for a star instead of a bunch of mid-level talent.

He's a 25 year-old seven footer. The contract he received is a lot of money to you and me, but not a ton of money for the NBA.

    I don't think that it's a ridiculous contract.

At the 2003-2004 season, a 24 years old center with a PER of 6.7 and a winscore/48 minutes of 0.007 got $5m from Portland. He became a pretty decent player here - that's Joel Pryzbilla, btw.

Last year, Darko, a 24 years old center had a PER of 12.9 and a winscore/48 of 0.048.

The Darko contract is not crazy, given the NBA. It's really not.

No. I think that you can do a lot worse than paying two young 7-footers with mediocre skills a combined 6M a year. Like, say, paying more to Drew Gooden. Or paying Joe Johnson 121M.

EDIT: Probably should've finished reading the thread first.

It's ten million a year between Pekovic and Darko ... Which might be OK, but this has huge Dan Gadzuric-like potential.

I read that wrong, then... I thought it said on here that Khan paid a combined 33M for both.

EDIT: I went to check ESPN, and the site's shut down. Anyone else getting through?

    From ESPN:
It is 33M total for Pekovic AND Darko. Not horrible, IMO.

It's not horrible for a contender or a team that has their main guys in place, and wants a good, serviceable backup center with a pulse.

For Minnesota? They clear cap space and this is what they do with it? I know no one wants to go to Minnesota but why not do what OKC did? They took on small contracts (D. Cook is a small forward btw) and get a guy like Aldrich and future picks. Or audition Beasley for a couple of years. Instead they do the opposite, get rid of lottery picks (Babbitt) just to take on money (Martell Webster) and then resign a mediocre center who is still young but hasn't improved in his career (Martell also falls into that category).

This is why it's such a head scratcher.

The Rudy Gay deal is much worse than both of these deals put together. It will be hard for anyone to top that deal for "worst of the year," but I'm sure there will be some solid attempts.

I think this deal is a tad silly, but not horrific. I'm a little amused how every deal announced becomes "omg that's the worst deal ever, that just single-handedly destroyed the players in the next CBA negotiation."

Only the Rudy Gay deal did that. ;)

To defend myself, I posted that before Chris Wallace leaped over everyone else to grab the lead.

    BUMP.

Darko is beastin up Duncan tonight. He's been their go-to guy down the stretch AGAIN. He's extremely skilled on offense, can shoot, and play D.

Going forward, I'd take him over any center currently on our roster.
