drove down fremont to 92nd to go pick up my friend on 141st the overpass had a bunch of idiots on it that probably had no business in snow so i went home and went right down a hill..... car started sliding ran into a curb and figured out when i was at the bottom of the hill that my chains that i just bought dont fit my car! awesome! haha anyways somehow slowly inched my way back home and figured out that im an idiot that shouldnt be on the road!
WTF? How can you not get around with a Subaru? Those things are beasts in the snow..... Crazy talk! Been running a Suby up to Hood 3-4 days a week for ski/boarding for the last 10 years!
Wrong tires. There was no snow forcast, so... it is still running the stock crap tires that come with them new, like the RE90. Sure, they have traction going forward, but the AWD does crap to stop them when it's slippery. The BMW with the old rally tires, RWD and open diff will run circles around it. I would rather be in a sport car with proper tires than an AWD car with crap all-season/summer tires - when it's slippery. If it had proper tires, it would an entirely different story.
In case anyone was curious, Stafford*** road was pretty nasty. But I made it back without a real problem God Bless you chains!
Yah, tires would definitely cause an issue.. I purchased some new continental conti-sport DWS's, for the AWD hatch I got. The only issue I had was too much lead foot hehe. Although, I'd much rather have Blizzak's, just didn't have the coin to spend on new rims (18" stockers).
If I was posting a video on youtube, I would not include my last name, nor a substantial chunk of my address AND the city I live in, in the video. Of course, I doubt anything would happen...but still.
Here's me having fun last year in my wife's ride!
My wife went out last nite and it was snowing. We've got about 3 inches of snow last we checked. Now you can go 45 mins from here and get six feet of snow! Ok, I have to admit something to tell this story. I hate soaps!! But my wife watches General Hospital. I use to just do stuff on my puter while she watched it, but some how I got hooked on the stupid show. Well today during the show they break in first with the a snow report then with the presidents report on the terrorist attempted bombing! Come on, what is news for?? So we decided to stop watching it and record the replay of it on the soap channel at midnite. We start to play it after it recorded, fast forward pass what we seen, and just at the part we haven't seen the sat signal goes out because of the snow!! Now we'll have to wait until Saturday when they play all of the week soaps in a row and record it and not watch the ones during the week. Anyway as others have said snow is nothing here, but ice/wind storms can be really bad. Ice is much harder to drive in and the weight of the ice on trees will break off branches which means a lot of power outages. And when it's a windy ice storm trees start falling over especially the firs since they have shallow roots.
Great Tires....just picked some up before Thanksgiving and couldn't be happier. A little soft in the sidewall they just don't lose grip.
Here is my commute story from last night. I slowly made my way up Burnside towards Sandy. Some lady driving a black mercedes in front of me was just spinning her tires. After a couple of minutes of pushing her she just kept getting stuck every 2 or 3 feet. I looked back and now I had enough room so I just got back in my car and went around her. The way I see it, this lady was just going to get stuck somewhere else even if I got her free.
Martell Webster helped strangers get their car unstuck with a broken foot! I drove by a business man in a tie changing his tire in the snow
I did help her in my suit and tie... but it was clear that she didn't know how to drive in the ice and snow. Some drivers are beyond help. I pushed her car 30 feet and she KEPT getting stuck. Meanwhile, a bunch of other Oregonians are passing us without offering a hand.
