We should sign Smith for the vet min and then trade LMA. I'm not sure who we'd trade him for but we wouldn't need him.

That was last season. He's back to playing his preferred PF this season, and his numbers are even worse. DET benched Monroe so they could start Smith at PF. No wonder Monroe wants out. Go to 82games.com and compare their advanced stats. Based on production, there is no way Smith deserves to start in front of Monroe and play more minutes at PF. I don't blame Monroe, I wouldn't want to play for an organization that made those kind of stupid decisions.

That's exactly what DET has given him, and he sucks worse this year than last.

Insanely stupid shot selection has ALWAYS been a JSmoove trademark.

I'm guessing we'd be no better than his 10th choice.

"We want you come come here, where it's cold and rainy, play fewer minutes and shoot less. Sound good?"

Isn't exactly a good sales pitch.

Once you get past Houston and Miami, where it's warm and sunny and he'd start at PF, you still have DAL, LAC, PHO, and maybe even a return to ATL, the site of his former glory, all way ahead of POR in the JSmoove sweepstakes.

Kind of makes you wonder if Pop would take a chance on him. Pop is the coach most likely to get the most out of Smith, and if Smith didn't come around, Pop wouldn't be afraid to cut him loose, like he did with Capn Jack. Plus, SAS already has Timmie and Diaw. It's not like they are hurting at the PF spot.

I would put money on him signing with Houston. Makes too much sense.

He does love to shoot 3s and Houston would hate him taking long 2s. That should be the sales pitch "we wont bitch when you shoot 10 3s a game ".

Yep, and if he does, I hope he continues to suck as badly there as he did in DET.

Looks to me like he started 14 games at PF and 14 games at SF. Singler started 14 games at SF, Munroe started 14 games at PF. So Detroit didn't stick him at PF and let him do his thing.

But like I said, there's no guarantee he'd revert to his previous level of play at PF for anyone else. He was a really good shot blocker and help defender who took a lot of outside shots and had a low FG% for a PF no matter the rest of his stats.

So was Rodman. Career 18 PER might be fine off our bench with the vets we have.

But Rodman always was a damn good rebounder. There was absolutely no slippage throughout Rodman's career in defense and rebounding.

Smith has been on a 3 year decline

Honestly, it's only been last year and up to this point this year.

I'm just thinking out loud, but speaking strictly in talent, I'd like him there instead of several of our bench guys. If he bought in, and that would definitely be something Olshey would need to find out, he'd be a nice scoring punch off the bench

His last season with Atlanta saw a big drop as well. I do get what most you guys are saying, but there are several reasons why I doubt it's gonna happen.

1.) he won't get to start in Portland

2.) Portland doesn't want to effect the current chemistry they have already (don't want Dale Davis issue to happen again)

3.) Smith has too much ties in Houston to go anywhere else.

The Blazers had a solid team and made an emotional trade.
