Any follow up? Marion didn't seem that upset about it at the time.

J.R Reid? He played PF/C, played college ball at North Carolina, was drafted by Charlotte. He also played for the Spurs and Lakers, and possibly a few more.

Yep, whether or not someone was injured, untying an opponents shoe creates an unnecessary risk.

That's it! He seemed like a cool kid. Wasn't anything spectacular, but he wasn't a cocksucker like the other JRs mentioned above.

Can you imagine if a white player had done this? MM would be arguing that if a black player did it no one would be upset over it.

He had a good college career. Probably should have entered the draft after his sophomore year when he was 1st Team All-American. He was a undersized for an NBA 5/4. Charlotte tried to start him at center, but that didn't work so well. He was a solid backup for San Antonio during his prime.

Why would one need to come up with an instance of when someone tripped over a shoe to warrant giving this ASSHAT a Technical? I'm telling while reading in my rule book that this is an unsporting like act. That in EVERY instance warrants a technical foul. This is serious MAN basketball. It's not a fucking prank. You're getting paid millions. Act like you've been there. He's a dick and I would have T'd him for that one.

No, I said if you make a post to provoke a response don't get upset over the response it provoked.

Total Globetrotters move by J.R. I think it's funny, but deserves a technical in serious competitive basketball.

    Yep.

And imagine the injury possibility if a player has his pants around his ankles.

When I grew up, life was tough in the neighborhood. The rules for HORSE were that if a dude pantsed you he got a letter. They might kill you if you couldn't spell. Rough place.

That was at the All Star Game... C'mon Denny, you're better than that.

    So?

All-Star game is the only place pranks are allowed?

I think this was a prank, but only JR was in on why it was funny. Or maybe it was gamesmanship.

It's not something you see every day.

I read a few articles about it today and they all said it didn't bother Marion.

When an NBA player gets bloody, the refs immediately stop the game for safety reasons. This "prank" is much more likely to lead to injury than that.

J.R. Smith has yet to figure out that athletic gifts are meaningless in basketball (offense) if you don't use them to get your team an easier shot. Of course he should be fined, but frankly I think being J.R. Smith is probably punishment enough.

Yes the All-Star game is the only place pranks are allowed. Especially against an opponent. Your disingenuous clip was in the All-Star game and was against a teammate. It also was his rip away pants not his shoe string. It didn't even happen during the game. It was during introductions not with a live ball.

Sure they are both pranks but they are not comparable pranks. Plus, you prank your teammates. I'll bet Marion doesn't even like JR Smith.
    This is a real prank:

Tasteful and no harm to anyone DURING the game.

When Stern took over, he immediately made the league punitive beginning in the 80s. It was a reflection of how the legal system vastly increased its prison sentences starting then.
