    Same... never heard the term.

All the more reason it would have never came out of my mouth I guess.

Thing that's weird is, while it is an older slur, it's most definitely a slur used by anti-Semites and *ONLY* anti-Semites.

It's not like the N word which has been embraced (for lack of a better word) by African-Americans/Blacks (in that they've taken ownership over it, changing the power of the word to a degree). I really doubt you'll find too many Jewish people going like "how it's going, my ****!?!"

But seriously, in what context could you ever say what Meyers said, and not have it be a slur or have previous knowledge of it being a slur or massive insult.

In my entire life I've never accidentally said a racial slur (I'm not saying I've never said one. I'm human, I've said stupid things before).

I love (hate) that non-Jewish people say “what’s the big deal I’ve never even heard of it”, I wonder if they could find one Jew who hasn’t heard of it. It’s offensive to them, that’s what matters. Not your feelings, but theirs.

It may not be a current or modern day slur (there are obviously slurs that are much more known) but anyone who says it (in this manner especially) has to know what it means. It's not like it randomly is brought up in casual conversation and when someone asks "hey whats that mean?" the response is "um, it means...jerk? I guess. I don't know, my grandpappy used to say it about his neighbor, the Cohens"

if you've never heard the word and don't know what it means, why would you use it to curse?

It is impressive how in this town, the only answer is to be even further left, or you're a Proud Boy. That's the discourse from the folks way out there.

Or use it as an insult?

Exactly. He knew. He just thought either he was among like minded people or that it really didn't matter. It's similar to that fucking idiot John Rocker.

Way out there is the side saying don't call people a Jewish slur? If you wanna support someone's right to say that, then go die on that hill. That's on you. Don't think people are way out there for thinking it's a shitty thing to say and Meyers sucks. For that and other reasons.

He, Meyers, has every right to say it. No doubt. But his right to say it doesn't abscond him from dealing with what he said.

I think the difference is people defending what he said, not THAT he said it.

very true. I didn't word that the way I intended. I acknowledge and own my mistake, and there is no running from something like this. I promise to do better and know my future actions will be more powerful.

I hope you're also seeking out help from those who can help you discover why you made that mistake and will help you do better.

I cared. But that’s just one of the many reasons to hate Kobe never mind that he was an overrated basketball player who refused to shoot in the second half of a Game 7 and shot 6 of 24 in another. Awful player. Awful person.

When I was in high school, a woman who was over for dinner, and I can't recall who she was or how she got a dinner invite, used the n word. My mother turned to her and said politely but firmly, "we do not use that word in this home". She tried to argue, Black people use it blah blah. My mother refused to argue, just repeated, "we do not use that word in this home".
I tried using it once when I was a kid to see how my parents would react. You don't want to know.
Gay people sometimes use the f word among ourselves, jokingly, but it's not funny when straights use it. Young gay people started using Queer as a way of saying they did not want to be respectable bourgeois gays, I see where they are coming from but still struggling with the word.

I have never heard Jews use k word or other slurs among ourselves jokingly. Never.

There is another conversation in another thread that touches on this. Yes we are indeed talking about business in the NBA.

Right now Meyers Leonard's sponsorship is being pulled. The team has issued a statement that they will investigate it and until further notice Meyers will not be "With the Team". The entire media portion of the NBA is "Aghast" that this could even happen. Yes even major Blazer writers probably will jump in. Quick most certainly will write something up but in true Quick form he will wait until he can put himself in the conversation and will also draw as much from other comments as possible. Canzano has been all about Ducks but I'm willing to bet he rears his head on this issue as well. Already been touched on by Dan Marang. Casey Hodahl has been silent. Aron Yohannes has wrote about it and of course the Oregonian posted the Associated press story.

The response has been as pretty much expected for a situation like this. You can bet Meyers is about done at least for the time being. Memories about this sort of thing can be pretty short in the end though. Right now people who have a deciding factor in business that command Millions and even Billions of dollars are pushing that send button and making statements. I really like the comment that compares it to a rapist because it makes a huge point. Would Kobe have been treated this way? How about Doncic? After a year will the smoke settle? Will Meyers be waived in the short term and then get picked up and play a backup role again somewhere else next fall when less people are talking about it?

One thing everyone seems to agree on is that he should not have said it. Even he thinks this now. A huge difference is this will not be going to trial and will blow over fairly quickly. Kobe was in the news for months and months. I would expect that this will boil down to a slap on the wrist. Meyers will continue to do stupid things but not THIS stupid thing. If Meyers was on the road and cheated on his wife with a dancer/hooker who then accused him of rape and sodomy without consent he would be done for life no question and probably convicted and sent to jail. Not to mention he would end up divorced. The idea he will be judged in the same way as Kobe is laughable at best.

When he is brought up in threads someone will without doubt call him a racist POS. He will have to do a bunch of community type service to get back on track but he will do that most likely. The thing is he has a few years left to play and he is a 7 footer. That vets minimum contract still gets him a couple million a year. You can bet he will take whatever class he needs to and he will come up with a deal for a contract. I can see him using this as a spring board to become the poster child for "hey i was stupid but now i know better" type campaign in the league. There are those who will eat it up.
