FIBA games seem really short to me at 40mins. NBA, a bit long at 48. Awesome that they picked a number right in between the two to test this out. I actually really like this idea.
I'd much rather decrease total games than game length. I agree with KS, it would kill the history of the league.
That is four minutes that they usually are playing. You could keep the same TV time the same and run commercials. Since stars drive the NBA, this makes them more valuable.
Huh? NBA games vary in length and often run over 2 hours. I don't see how this gets the League more commercials.
They should just do it like soccer and make them play until the refs decide the game is over. That's my layman's understanding of soccer that is probably completely wrong.
Too many time outs as is. And I guarantee the commercials will still be the same length, if not more. So you get less basketball and more commercials. FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC. :\ I'd rather it go the format of Soccer...
There's already enough stoppages, so hopefully this isn't implemented. If it is, then strike one more up for our Plutocratic overlords.
Heres an idea reduce games played to 66, bump minutes to 60 a game (No more b2b games) and expand rosters by 5. There are 3936 minutes played in the regular season (not counting OT), That's over 82 games at 48 minutes, If you devide 3936 by 60 instead of 48 you get 65.6 so you'd barely be playing more minutes in the long run but would have more recovery time. Also stats wouldn't have to take a hit for career numbers.
I think dropping 4 teams instead of 6 makes more sense though. Just drop Sacramento, Memphis, Milwaukee and Minnesota.
