He wasn't done. He is a true seven footer who is still a very good defender. He was very effective last night.
Several commentators were impressed with his fitness level and athleticism after such a long layoff, he's a smart player. Knows the game well.
He's only played 70 games the last 3 seasons and typically a PER of about 3. Good defender not great.
Which is the point I was making. Collins being gay has nothing to do with his contract status, nor should it.
Wow, I learned something about tennis I wasn't aware of..way cool! I knew of some of his records but nothing of his personal history. Good work!
So you're outing Arthur Ashe? I don't give a crap about a documentary. Ashe was a great man and an inspiration to many, but he never, ever came out as being a homosexual. If you want him to be gay, that's on you. I don't care if he was gay or straight, but you're making claims that aren't supported by the man's own words.
Like millions of people over the course of history, he died from the stress the legal system put on him. The FBI was the national morals police then. The more subtle way now is to create a manhater class to police the nation's morals.
The only reason you're arguing that Collins is even a bad NBA player is because he's gay. If he hadn't have come out, you wouldn't be posting about him and his -12 PER.
I think it was a brilliant PR move by the Russian owner of the Nets to not only give Collins a 10-day deal, but also play him. Their team is going to be shit for a few years, and it pokes a stick in Putin's eye in a liberal NYC. If he's signed for the rest of the season, I'll believe it wasn't a PR stunt to get attention to a struggling team overloaded with bad contracts.
People take shots at people all the time, just ask slypokerdog. Why should someone's sexual preference be off limits?
It's people taking shots at people all the time that "should" be off limits. Blazer Fanatic got banned for it.
Wow, looking at his numbers and I think he may be the worst 10+ year vet in history. Career per/36: 6.3 PPG | 6.5 RPG | 0.9 BPG Only reached double-figures in PER twice in 12 years -- career high being 10.7 (rookie year)
Do us both a big favor here ok? Stop trying to use anything I express as a reason to vent personal accusations at me. I don't care what you give a crap about. I'm sure you've memorized his entire life's dialogue and seen all the news ever printed but I refuse to debate semantics with you whenever a topic is discussed. I don't post here for the sake of argument but apparently that's your MO. Anymore of it and I'll just ignore your threads which is too bad because I enjoy a sense of community but not constant negative affirmation from you.
You claimed that Arthur Ashe was gay. How is me asking about how you know this "semantics?" I don't care if he was gay or straight, but you listed him as a gay athlete. I never once have seen where Arthur Ashe made that claim, so I am dubious of your post re: Ashe. If you can't handle me questioning your claim, then ignore me. I saw it as you disseminating a rumor as fact on a public message board, and I called you on it. Instead of offering facts to back up your rumor, you instead play the victim. S2 doesn't work that way. Back up your shit, or go home.
The best part of this thread is that the true underlying discussion isn't about a gay athlete playing in the NBA. Instead we are throwing stats discussing skill set and player history about whether he is a good enough talent to be in the NBA. Aside from a couple juvenile attempts at humor this thread has been about basketball.
Collins clearly showed the difference between being in shape and being in NBA game shape -as we've seen with others. Hopefully he'll get his second wind. Meanwhile, an enlightened individual wants a law banning gays from the NFL. Because Jesus or somesuch.
You refuse to acknowledge everything he did well on the court. I didn't start this thread but when you posted his negative PER, I offered up details of what he did on the court and why his PER doesn't tell the story of what he does well.
